There’s just something about Boston Terriers that makes them really photogenic. Is it the smooshed face? The wrinkles? The googly eyes? Whatever it is, it’s magic.

This one is weird and I like it. Tippy-toes.

Bill and his buddy, Lucy, playing in the snow

Depending on the breed you foster and where you live, taking in dogs during the winter can be hard. With Bostons, it can go either way, but for a small breed they are pretty darn tough so the winter weather is usually not too challenging.

Luckily my new foster, Toby, doesn't mind the snow in the yard. In fact, he marches right in and does his thing. Bill, on the other hand, has taken to peeing on his feet on our patio (when is he going to learn!).

On the downside, Toby's got a skin and ear infection. I hope the mail trucks get out today - oh, back up, the fact that we got two feet of snow over the last day is integral to this story - Toby's ear medicine is in the mail from rescue and he really needs it. If you've never had a dog with an ear infection, it's pretty miserable. He's trying to stuff his whole paw in his ear and he keeps shaking his head vigorously. Curing it is easy, though, just a week or two of ear drops twice a day.

On the other hand, his skin will take much longer. We don't really know what caused the infection, but a cocktail of Benedryl and Cephilixin (sp?) twice daily should clear it up in a few months. He's also getting a weekly medicated bath, and luckily he's not too bad in the tub.

The point of all this is that I feel bad for Toby that he's not feeling well and has to go for walks in such cold weather. I feel bad for Bill, too, because he would spend the whole day at the dogpark, running in the snow, given the opportunity. I guess we'll leave Toby at home for that one today.

I worked on a pastel over watercolor at the fair. A bit wild but great fun... I mean he started out PURPLE AND BLUE!

Again the wind blew me to Spanish Bank where we had a photo session for Sophie and Mila.  I love beach photography, these backdrops are so awesome! Maybe I should change the name of the company from Off Leash photography  to Vancouver Beach Dog Photography? Sounds cheesy, and I think that since the dogs are mostly off leash on our gorgeous beaches I will stick with Off Leash.. But meet the girls… They are both French bulldog Boston Terrier cross.

Sophie is a serious one, she is almost two years old and Mila is more outgoing and she is nearly a year old. They came from the same parents so they are a real sisters.

Sophie is the one with white face and quite a grown up expressions..

It is always a challenge to get the dog to pose for the shot and with two of them it is twice as difficult..

Since they were getting quite impatient with me we took a break and let them run around and play for a bit

At some point Mila started feeling sick, she must have ate something at the beach.. Just look at her… so sweet!

We decided to give Mila  a break and it was Sophie’s turn to pose.. she was not impressed with me. It was a new beach for her and with Mila resting she was feeling uneasy.

I just love that spot on her back, it is so cute!

After a while Mila felt better and was good for some more shots…

She is so outgoing and playful, but here she looks like a real thinker…

IMG_0726

It is hard to believe that she is not even a year old and has the concentration to pose

How is the dominate one?

IMG_0872t

Ok, so I have been posting lately without the tongue photos, that still are my fixation, but I still take these…here it the proof…

I think Sophie looks here like a leader of a socialist party or something..so funny!

These girls are so sweet, it was such a pleasure to work with them! I have to give a lot of credit to the mom, Brenda was great and so easy going.

Thank you Brenda it was another fun day photographing dogs on the  Vancouver beach just what I like the most!

Update as off September 27, 2009: I have found my girl in Calgary, thanks to one fantastic lady Jodanna in Kelowna. I am getting a Boston Frenchie of my own! She is a few days old now, but expect to see her here mid November! Also if you need a puppy for your own drop me a line she has some sisters and brothers that need some loving homes.

Yet one more of my little 5x5" mini canvases.  I figured the stark black and white and red was a bit edgier.  Or not...
