A while back I almost got a job doing some covers for breed magazines. This was one of the ones I was really feeling good about. Apparently, however, a great Chow Chow has tiny little eyes. I have learned to love, even these sad little creatures with big pretty peepers, no matter how imperfect!

These girls are as sweet as sugar pie, honest to goodness!
Holly, a Lab/Chow mix, found her inner diva on this pleasant afternoon. She was a little shy at first but after I told her how I was going to make her a star, she got swept away in the fun of it all.
She loves to play peek-a-dog, is muy inteligente and get this…..
…can also ward off vampires should you happen to encounter one whilst strolling in a dark alley. Ha ha ha!! Technically, she’s “begging” but I think she knows better. She’s not playing around with anyone’s safety. (Okay, I’ve been watching too much HBO)
Shorty, the equally sweet and delightfully entertaining Aussie mix, is Holly’s sister. She spent most of her time at home base, on the back porch. She has soulful eyes and the sweetest little face.
She loves to just lay and sit on the stairs. Sometimes when she’s barking, she breaks into song and I just adore it!
They are both Grade-A sweethearts and I had such a fabulous time. And, for the record, they have a new baby sister (an actual person) that they’ve adjusted to quite well. Hooray! I love happy new additions.
Thank you Dotty & Jay! It was a pleasure!
Up close and personal, this is a quickie, because I am off on a trip and may not get to the technology to do anything else!

There's almost 400 Pounds of dog in my house right now!

This would be OK if I had two Neapolitan Mastiffs that were sleeping like rugs.
BUT, I have a 1000 sq. ft. California Cottage and, one German Shepherd under the age of 10 months, 1 Border Collie just over a year, a Hound Mix, an AussieX, a Chow/PitX and a 6mo Pittie, plus one very old, slow moving Schnauzer.
Keeping play tame, furniture standing, and knees from being blown out is NOT OPTIONAL! ...BUT it is simple.
When a new dog is thrown into the mix they get a quick lesson on home-manners. The rules are as simple. There are 3 obedience phrases and 2 consequences. I NEVER yell any of these. I never threaten (everything has a consequence). I am always right.
Commands:
Yellow Warning Light: "__dog's name__, Cool-it."
Red Light: "Too-bad."
Green Light: "Thank You."
Consequences:
Errors earn a dog a 10-15 second time-out in a crate, bathroom, or tied to leash.
Compliance earns the dogs Praise & Freedom, maybe a toy tossed to them, perhaps a cookie.
THE RULES:
- Bump into Kelley, get an automatic time-out: "Too-bad."
- Bump into grandma (schnauzer), get an automatic time-out: "Too-bad."
- Bump into furniture, get an automatic time-out: "Too-bad."
- Get TOO LOUD, get a warning.
- Head the warning, and become quiet, get a green light to keep playing.
- Ignore warning, get a time-out: "Too-bad."
- Play with anything but a dog toy, get an automatic time-out: "Too-bad."
- Go in the no-dog-zone, get an automatic time-out: "Too-bad."
BONUS: "PLAY BREAK"
