Aggression is a very common trait associated with dogs. Different circumstances spark temperamental swings leading to aggressive behavior on their part. Dogs manifest their anger or disapproval through common signs that may include continuous barking, howling and lunging. But sometimes blocking the way, jumping in the air and pouncing on the owner may also indicate restless behavior.
As a dog grows in years, he starts getting impatient. His level of tolerance slowly weans away paving the way for violent behavior. But this abrupt change usually throws the whole house into a tizzy. We are completely at our wits’ end unable to decide how to cope with these unforeseen circumstances. But we shouldn’t worry too much and instead try to delve deep into the matter.
First and foremost we should reflect on the situations that induced aggressive behavior on our dogs’ part in the past. There could be several causes right from challenge posed by a younger dog to a sudden onset of illness like arthritis, hyperthyroidism or possible brain tumors. The former sounds a little weird. But this is true because sometimes due to old age a senior dog may not be able to match up to the energy level of his younger counterparts, leading to a sense of frustration and despondency. Medical conditions, however, could be a potential cause of misdemeanor. Pain and stiffness from arthiritis rob them off their ability to move about unhindered. Hyperthyroidism and brain tumors although rare occurrences may lead to excruciatingly painful conditions. These keep them tensed all the time. But the medical problems can be resolved by consulting his vet.
Dogs usually tend to be well disciplined if we inculcate good values in them. But if they suddenly start behaving abnormally we should immediately investigate the causes and take proper measures to abate them.
I would like to be old myself, as long as I am as healthy as can be. Shiba Inus can get really old, though I have not heard of any who became twenty years old.
It should be noted that while this dog is a cross breed, there is nothing that says that other Dachshund Terrier cross breeds will be as long lived as he is. I do not even know what Terrier breeds are in him. He must have hit a jackpot in the genetic lottery.

Memory Foam Dog Beds Take Away the Pain.
It breaks our hearts to watch our beloved Buddys suffer from the pain of canine arthritis and hip dysplasia. Buddy Beds are designed for older dogs that need that extra joint support and comfort. Traditional dog beds with traditional materials create pressure points that cut off circulation preventing blood flow through the joint. It is just like oil in a car, the blood flowing through the joint lubricates the joint. Memory foam eliminates ALL of those painful pressure point -- allowing the blood to continuously lubricate the joint as your Buddy rests or sleeps upon their Buddy Bed. You will see as your dog uses their memory foam dog bed, they will not be as stiff and sore in the mornings after sleeping.
Painful pressure points build up, and that is why pets (and humans) toss and turn to find a more comfortable position. Studies have show memory foam to reduce tossing and turning in humans by 90%. Buddy Beds orthopedic memory foam dog beds mold and contours to your Buddy's body, relieving those painful pressure points that cut off circulation.
All beds are:

3. Exercise at a slow & steady pace. Remember your dogs joints & bones ain't what it use to be, so slow down walks and let your dog set the pace. Be patient walks will take longer but should be shorter in distance. More short walks during the day are better than one long one. Dogs need to remain physically active.
4. Keep those brain juices flowing! Stimulate the brain. It is true that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Car rides, different scenic walk route to smell the roses are two easy ways to keep the brain stimulated. Another great way to stimulate an older dogs brain cells is with interactive toys made with senior pups in mind.
Planet Dog created the Old Soul line with senior pups in mind. Old Soul Orbee-Tuff Ball & Bone innovatively address issues that every dog experiences as they grow older and wiser: reduced vision and snout strength, weakened jaw muscles and brittle teeth. They were specifically designed for senior dogs whose chewing strength and urgency have waned over the years, but who still like a good, gummy chew.
5. Gently massage your dogs achy muscles & joints. This not only helps with your dogs achy joints, but it helps the entire body & promotes the bonding experience. If your dogs yelps in pain from your massage or touch simply stop, if pain persist seek vet help.
6. Groom me please! Its important that as dogs age that you don't let their hygiene & grooming habits go. It not only important for their health but their appearance & self-esteem. Add to your dog’s grooming schedule. Increased brushing helps circulation, plus dogs of an advanced age can’t take care of themselves like they used to be able to. Consider a summer haircut for a dog with long hair.
7. Take a potty break before hitting the pillows! As senior dogs age they can lose control over their bladder. Allow your dog the opportunity to relieve itself immediately after eating, before turning in for the night and first thing in the morning.
8. Provide a soft place to flop. Invest in a orthopedic bed that is good for dogs with achy joints. When selecting a bed make sure it is firm enough to provide support to the hips, shoulders, spine and neck.
Cold weather and drafty living corridors is not good for any dogs, especially ones with arthritis. So make sure your dog has a warm sleeping, draft & damp free area to lay his head. One way to guard your dog from the cold is to keep his bed elevated off the floor, which helps to relieve stiffness and pain due to the cold.
9. Purchase rugs. Put down lots of rugs on slick flooring such as wood laminates and linoleum. Dogs have trouble with the lack of friction on such floors.
10. Is your dog having trouble with walking & mobility? Consider a harness or wheelchair if your dog is having trouble walking.
