I am currently visiting Hot Labrador Rescue in Texas!

Wow I am bushed!!
I spent November 7 at An Evening of Giving, Texas Style with Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue.
And WOW was it a big PAWSOME event.
It was held at the historic Fairmount Hotel in downtown San Antonio.
The Fairmount is the largest brick building ever moved.
It was moved in 1968 to make way for the Worlds Fair. It is now home to Labrador Luke who is the Hotels K9 ambassador. Luke said that people can request that he stay in their room, and they get a shirt that says “I Slept with Luke” upon checkout. That is so Pawsome.
At the event Luke and I handled the welcome table. Luke greeted everyone and I took their tickets and
made sure they got a complementary wine glass with the Heart of Texas Lab Rescue logo on it.
I got to meet some Pawsome folks, including several HOTLab ambassadors. Rolo, Raven and Mimsy
all sat down with me and told me their stories. How they were left in a shelter and were frightened not
knowing what was going on, then all of a sudden someone came to see them and told them that they
would take care of them, get them healthy and find them a loving forever home.
That someone was from Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue. I started to cry then Raven gave me a lick and said all Labbies at HOTLab find forever homes.
Raven told me about the day she came to HOTLab Rescue, how she went from being in a kill shelter to
living in a Foster home. I asked whose home it was, when she said it was Ray’s place I got all excited as
that is where I am staying. She told me about how Ray’s Lab Shaq, who just crossed over the Rainbow Bridge,
told her that she was in a safe place and that soon she would be meeting lots of people. And how she went to
several Meet and Greets until she meet the Brown family. She said she knew right away that they were her forever family. She said that now she is healthy, has food and a safe place to live. I was so touched.
While at the event I got to sample some wonderful snacks provided by Whole Foods and Cowgirl Granola.
YUM!!!! I love Granola. I then got to sample some great wines provided by Cape Classics Wines and Beer from Free Tail Brewery but I really loved the Root Beer from Blue Star Brewery and the Iced Tea from Sweet Leaf Iced Tea.
I think it is pawsome that all these companies came together to help Labrador in need.
And if that was not Pawsome enough I went in to see the Silent Auction items.
WOW!!! there was so many pawsome things to bid on. Original paintings, books on Labradors,
Jewelry, blankets, wine tastings. Incredible all donated to help my new friends. I bid on a number of things.
I really wanted that blanket, but got outbid at the last minute. Drats I knew there was a reason why that kid was distracting me.
At the end of the evening there was a raffle for a brand new Apple iPhone.
Gosh I really would have loved to have won it. But it went to a very worthy person.
I had a Pawsome evening and was glad to help Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue raise over $5,000 dollars.
That will help a lot of Labbies and I made some great new friends.
More pictures to come soon!
Love, Pups

I am visiting Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue!!
Wow!!! I had a Pawsome time at the Lab Ranch the other day. I was in the midst of not one but two puppy piles.
Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue was able to save two Momma Labs who were left at a kill shelter just days before giving birth. Juno, a most beautiful Yellow Lab, gave birth just days after being rescued to 11 of the most beautiful puppies you have ever seen. And just a week later Eden, a Black Lab just like me, gave birth to 10 equally as gorgeous puppies.
Both Momma’s and all their Puppies are doing well. Which is remarkable!!
While at the Lab Ranch my job was to talk to the puppies and tell them about the pawsome opportunity that they have been given. They were all very good listeners and then we played together.
Just before going I got to spend some time with Pepi. Pepi is a very special puppy in Juno’s litter, he is named in honor of the great @Pepismartdog from twitter. I told HOTLab Pepi all about him. How his namesake was smart, brave and honest and that he had a lot to live up to but that he was given the name to provide the strength to carry on his legacy.
On Saturday I will be the guest of honor at Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue, An Evening of Giving at the Fairmount hotel in San Antonio. I am going to try on my Tuxedo today to make sure it fits still. I have been eating too many goodies lately.
Ray and I went down earlier this week to drop off supplies and to thank everyone at the Hotel for all they are doing to help Labs in need. While there I got to meet the famous Luke Tips who is the hotel’s concierge and official greeter. Luke is a pawsome yellow Lab. The two of us hit it off right away.
Off to help with last second preparations. Will be posting my adventure at the big Fundraiser this weekend. I am so excited. It’s going to be so pawsome.

Although most dogs will jump into the back of your car with their tail wagging, looking forward to the trip, that’s not always the case. Some dogs feel apprehensive about traveling in your car, and may in fact become quite ill.
If your dog isn’t a good traveler, you’ll need to take some time to get him used to a car trip. Start a few weeks before your planned trip, because it may take a while. Your first step is to walk your dog around your car, and give him a treat if he approaches the car for a sniff, or shows any interest in it.
Next, invite him into the car with you, and again treat him if he’s relaxed. The next step is to have him sitting beside you in the car, then close the doors and reward him. This is a slow process of desensitization that works well, but takes time and patience. Spend a couple of days working on each step, and don’t move on until your dog is happy with the previous step.
The next part of the process is to have him in the car, with the doors closed, then start the engine. Don’t go anywhere, just give him treats if he’s quiet. If at any time he becomes anxious, go back to the previous step and repeat it until he’s calm.
Finally, go for a short trip with your dog in the car, but make sure you go somewhere fun, such as the off leash park or the beach. These early trips must be short and enjoyable, so he develops a positive association with the car.
If he becomes nauseous, ginger can help. Either raw ginger, some ginger nut biscuits or a ginger capsule may ease his upset stomach. One 500mg capsule of ginger is appropriate for a medium sized dog. Sometimes a drop of peppermint oil on the tongue also helps. If your dog needs a more sedative effect, the herb Valerian can relax him for the trip.
Keeping your dog secure in the vehicle is critical for his safety. If you can fit a crate in the back of your vehicle, that’s by far the safest way to transport him. If not, then a harness attached to a seat belt is a good alternative. Don’t allow your dog to stick his head out of the window, because dirt and gravel can cause conjunctivitis.
If you’re traveling by plane, check your airline’s guidelines with respect to traveling with pets. Some airlines won’t fly your dog if it is too hot or too cold, so you’ll need alternative arrangements just in case this happens.
You’ll need to use an approved pet carrier or crate, with your contact details firmly attached to the side. If your dog becomes stressed, consider Valerian as mentioned above.
Put a familiar smelling blanket in the carrier, and instead of water, consider a bowl of ice cubes which will slowly melt. The bowl can be attached to the inside of the carrier so it doesn’t tip over.
When you book your flight, avoid flying in peak periods, where your flight may be more likely to be delayed. That will mean your dog isn’t left on the tarmac or in the baggage hold for any longer than necessary. Also, if possible, watch your dog being loaded onto the plane, so you know he’s not going to become “missing baggage”.
Whether you’re going to your vet or on vacation, it’s ideal if your dog isn’t stressed by the trip. Spend some time planning ahead and he’s much more likely to travel well and arrive at his destination happy and relaxed.

Wow I have been busy the past few days!!
I have been hanging out with Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue in Austin, TX.
Just before I arrived their spokes Lab, Shaq who was 16 crossed the Rainbow Bridge. HOTLab
has a big event coming up on November 7th at the Fairmount Hotel In San Antonio.
Shaq had a lot of duties associated with it so I volunteered to help out.
Boy am I bushed, how did Shaq do all this at his age?
First I went to Sweet Leaf Iced Tea and picked up a donation from them!

Then I went over to their HQ in Austin to thank them.
@sweetleafapril from Twitter showed me around.
It was a Pawsome experience!!
If I had to work in an office, that is where I would want to work.
Then I had to go to Whole Foods and go over the menu for the event.

Yum!!!! I like cookies so requested some as well as International cheeses and meats!
Next I helped get the Silent Auction items together to be brought down to San Antonio.
I got to try on a Necklace that will be auctioned off.
Inspected the Apple iPhone that will be Raffled.
People donated some Pawsome products to help raise funds.
Afterwards I got a special treat.
Ray who is showing me around took me to Mellow Johnnys,
Lance Armstrongs bike shop in Austin.
While there Ted Arnold gave me a tour.
I got to ride the actual bike that Lance rode in the Tour de France.
Then I got to see one of Lance’s Yellow Jerseys.
Ted told me about how Lance survived cancer to become one of the greatest cyclist.
And just as we were getting ready to go Ted took us to a super secret place where the bikes for
Lance’s Team Radio Shack were being prepared.
When we got home there was a shipment of Wine Glasses for the Evening of Giving Event.
Wow they look great. Everyone who attends will get one.

I am one tired Pups, but it was a Pawsome Day.
My Host HOTLab Buddy & Jewel loved hearing all my stories.
They wish that they were well enough to join me.
But they need to recover from Heartworm treatment.
You can learn more about HOTLab at www.hotlabrescue.org
