The American Pit Bull Terrier has gotten a bad rap over the years. They’re currently a breed known for dog aggression and fighting, but this wasn’t always the case.

After World War II, the dogs that were approached with caution were primarily German Shepherds and Dobermans. The Pit Bull was around then, but as a family pet, not a frightening ogre. The dog playing with the kids on “The Little Rascals” TV show was a Pit Bull.

When properly trained and socialized, this is a very good dog and a great family companion.

I simply couldn’t imagine my life without Molly. My beautiful white Husky/wolf mix had been with us for 14 wonderful years. She was the one constant in a life that was often chaotic and unpredictable.

But the day finally came when her back legs simply wouldn’t work, and she gazed at me with her beautiful eyes, asking, “You’re not going to make me stay like this, are you?”  She trustingly rested her head on my leg as I sat with her on the floor of the vet clinic, and she peacefully drifted off to her new home over the Rainbow Bridge.

Included in the series of Lost Souls: FOUND!™ books, compiled and edited by Kyla Duffy and Lowrey Mumford, and published by Happy Tails Books™, is a wonderful assortment of stories about my favorite breed of dogs, the Golden Retriever. The stories are provided by a number of contributors and Golden Retriever rescue groups. The book Lost Souls: FOUND! Inspiring Stories about Golden Retrievers is full of rescue stories about wonderful adopted dogs, and the positive impact they have on their families.

I found the website, “The Lovable Golden Retriever,” to be extremely thorough and informative about the breed. It includes such common dog categories as adoption, common health issues, training, characteristics, and an enjoyable history of the popular breed. Having a golden myself, I was eager to read through the website and gather relevant information.

The Afghan hound is an unusual and beautiful looking dog. When running free, the Afghan moves at a gallop, showing great elasticity and spring in his smooth, powerful stride. He can trot at a fast pace, moving with his head and tail high. The whole appearance of the Afghan hound is one of great style and beauty.

The hound’s coat is typical of animals found in high altitudes. Their coat, which is thick, silky, and fine, requires regular grooming, and their large size requires regular exercise.
