This is so sad and frustrating. The winning shelter here in St Louis has had to take Richard Thompson to court in an attempt to collect the prize. Meanwhile another Missouri shelter is expecting to receive their makeover from this year's contest.

All I can say is I am so tired of all the greed and dishonesty in this country. This guy had it all timed to hit on current trends on words like: community, rescue, social media. First suckered rescue groups to visit his site, leave positive but false reviews all in the hope of winning money for their cause. Then he suckers advertisers and celebrities like Purina, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and others to advertise on this platform. He keeps the ad money and all the while had no intention of helping rescue organizations. Bernie Madoff, Richard Thompson, Merrill Lynch! they're all the same, scam artists.

This is the same guy who once owned Meow Mix. I'm sure he's got an extra million bucks to spare.

Why don't you tell the whole story instead of trying to paint a great site like Zootoo in a bad light? Stray Rescue and Zootoo issued a joint statement, where Stray Rescue apologized for going to the press with false information. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2009/04/winning_shelter_apologizes_to.html It's cute to call Richard a scam artist....except it's a complete farce to paint him in that light. You're a scam artist for blogging about such a great site and a great bunch of people trying to help all of us in the pet world in such a bad light. Shame on you.

Anonymous, if ZooToo is such a good site, and does such great things for shelters, why don't you just go to their site and read what their own community thinks of them: http://www.zootoo.com/journals_j_sheltermakeover/zootoomakeoververymisleading_sfwain

I love reading these comments. Coincidentally my home town paper wrote about the story today: http://www.fortmilltimes.com/124/story/538730.html Certainly there were communication problems. Maybe I am cynical but when a contract has words like "pledges up to" that doesn't sound very sincere to me. Certainly it leaves lots of room re-neg on a promise.

he is a con artist. i am sure there was a joint statement that was crammed down the rescue's throat or his lawyers would eat them up and spit them out. con man!
