Hi Everyone.
Today is a very special Birthday --- it is National Dog Day. I found out all these interesting facts about today (and every year on this day) when my Mouse Person took me flying around in cyberspace.
National Dog Day is celebrated August 26th annually and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.
Founded in 2004 by pet lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige, National Dog Day was created to honor dogs more than we currently do, to give them "a day", to show deep appreciation for our long connection to each other - for their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty, for their work, their capacity for love and their ability to impact our lives everyday in the most miraculous ways. National Dog Day wishes to encourage dog ownership of all breeds, mixed and pure - and embraces the opportunity for all dogs to live a happy, safe and ”abuse-free life”.
National Dog Day is against any kind of "breed ban". Dogs should not have to lose their lives because of the atrocities they have been forced to endure at the hands of man. And while we feel that American's have the constitutional right to purchase a pure breed dog, we strongly discourage buying from pet stores, backyard breeders, the internet, newspaper ads and puppy mills, and rather encourage those seeking new canine companions, to verify that they are buying from a reputable breeder, educate themselves about their dog's breed and better yet - visit their local shelter or pure breed rescue group for a new furry family member that will be forever grateful.
Millions of dogs are killed each year because they are unwanted. They are wonderful and viable sentient beings that deserve compassion and respect. Please consider adopting on National Day!
National Dog Day will also be many a dog’s birthday and for all of them it will be akin to a “K9- 4th of July!”
Even citizens who are not dog owners will be encouraged to donate $5 to their local shelter on National Dog Day.
That's a great idea, isn't it....... donating $5 to your local shelter today to let them know you are celebrating National Dog Day. Mom says that today can be Scarlett and Rusty's Happy Birthday since we don't know exactly when they were born. Yahoo! Now we can have a Party all over again, with the leftovers from Lily's Big Bash last night. Yahoo!
And here is someone who needs a new home! Here name is Cali
See how fast her tail is wagging? You can't even see it for the blur! That is just how sweet this little girl is. She was found in Harper's Ferry - West Virginia in April with lots of milk, but no puppies. That is awful, cause we sorta don't want to know what happened to her babies, do we? She is in a wonderful foster home now, but she needs her very own forever home.

Look at that face! Please, please help us find Cali a forever home of her own. If you or someone you know about would like to meet her, just let me know and I will put you in touch with her very nice Foster Mom.
So would that not be a wonderful way to celebrate National Dog Day? Yes! It would be.
Love and Licks,
Bob
......wanted Cali to come here, but the inn is full
Lily Bug as we call her.
The Queen of the Portabello

Isn't this a beautiful "bug" for our LIly? I love that I can find things like this and actually make them work! HA! And since I found a Bug, maybe Lily needs a Monkey too?

And of course she needs some cake!

AND ICE CREAM!

That was fun!, Wasn't it?
I can't believe that our LIly is already one entire year old. She is a big sister to WillowBee too! And I assure you, being Willow's (The Bee) Big Sis is a full time job. Lily deserves extra cake and ice cream tonight for putting up with all of The Bee's antics.
Lily got a BirthdayCakeToy from her Mom and she loves it! It plays Happy Birthday singing too!
Lily has already fallen in love with her cake, especially the red candle. For some reason she likes that one a lot:
Mom says everyone had better get one long good look at the cake, cause by the time that WillowBee gets it and hides it some place deep in the garden, we'll never see it again!
So Happy Birthday to our Lily LoveBug!
We are so glad we found you and that you are our girl!
Love and Licks,
Bob
........ The Big Brother!

This sounds like it will be a LOT of fun. I've never been to a BaseBall Game, but I think that I would like to go to one like this. And since some of the money would be helping the Washington Humane Society, then it would be for a good cause also. It is always much more fun to do something when good causes get to be helped at the same time!
Do you think I would need some kind of a special uniform to wear on this day, or a hat, maybe?
Love and Licks,
Bob
I just found out that our helping group for our Leesburg Dog Park (that would be Leesburg Dogs, Inc - A 501c(3) Non-Profit Corporation
Check out the A.V. Symington Aquatic Center at Ida Lee Park!

The water park will be closing for the season, and so guess what? The dogs get to go and swim on a very special day and have a wonderful fun event. Personally, I don't swim very well. Actually, I don't swim at all, cause I sink to the bottom of the bowl really fast (because of all my huge muscles, I think), but I am so excited about this event. I think there are perhaps places here that I can just dip my toes in the water, but for sure, I will get to meet lots of my friends and watch them have fun.
And you KNOW that WillowBee will be going, right?
WillowBee spends as much time as she possibly can sitting in our kiddie pool on our back deck, but then again, she is a Labrador and that is what Labrador's do best, isn't it? Sit around in tubs of water? Ha.
This event will be happening from 9am to 12 Noon on September 12th and only costs a small price of $5 per dog (2-dog per family limit) And children under the age of 8-people years will not be permitted to come along because the pup play might get a little rambunctious (isn't that a wonderful word that I learned from our friend, Mary Harper?).
When I was a small pup, my Mom and my Sis, Lydia, took me to a Dog Swim at a regular outdoor swimming pool in Ashburn, Virginia. I was so amazed. There were dogs EVERYWHERE in that pool and swimming like crazy pups. It was so much fun to watch!
And our Aquatic Center at Ida Lee Park is HUGE and here are all the things that you can find there:
o 600’ Lazy River
o Large slide Tower with Two Body Flumes
o Drop Slides
o Crossing Feature
o Two Gang Slides
o Little Squirt Whale
o Large “Beach” Area with Bubblers and Water Fountains
o 25 yard Lap Lanes
o Dumping Buckets
o Water Pipe Fall
o Shade Structures
o Concession Stand
o Grass Picnic Area
o Floating Snake and Alligator
o Birthday Party Packages
THAT IS A LOT OF FUN THINGS ISN'T IT? I am one Lucky Dog to live in Leesburg, that is for sure! Our swimming hole opened on May 23 of this very year and if you want to go and have lots of fun between now and the time of The Dog Swim, you can call 703 779 5390 for more information and facts.
Because this is a fund raising event for Leesburg Dogs, Inc (we need to get some better water drinking spots at our dog park), there will be lots of vendors here that you can visit, and I'm sure someone will sell you a Hot Dog to eat, or something to drink and it will be Fun, Fun, Fun.
We are going to see if Luke and Huds and Murphs can be there first thing in the morning too, so that might be a chance to meet them. I'll be blogging about their full schedule again very soon, but don't forget they will be here in our area for a couple of weeks and you will for sure want to see them.
Anyway. Add this fun event to your calendar of fun events! And wear your very nicest swimming pants!
Love and Licks,
Bob
...... can't swim, but will watch
Here is a wonderful picture of Otto and his partner, who is named Greg Parsons.
I am very jealous of Otto's collar. See... it says POLICE in BIG letters? I could use that collar. I would promise to only wear it on my property, just to make sure that my family knew who was really in charge around here. I think they may forget that from time to time. Do you think Otto would let me borrow his collar just for one day if I promised to bring it right back to him?
I love it when Ms. Bev takes pictures of boots and their dogs. She took a fine picture of our Princess Daisy and my "sis" Lydia like that and it has always been one of my very favorite pictures from Ms. Bev.

The Princess had some nice collars too. My collars are boring. And dirty. I need new ones.
You know that on August 18 of last year our Princess crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and is now the Social Director and in charge of Internet Shopping and Blogging in Dog Heaven? If it wasn't for Ms. Bev we would not have so many wonderful and different pictures of our girl to look at and remember her wonderful little face. And her butt.

And of course, my all time favorite is this picture of me and Daisy talking in our garden. This when I was just small and she was telling me that I was "dumb as a stump" (that's what she ALWAYS said) and that there was little chance I would ever be taking over the Blogging Business from her. I was sad to inherit that when she died and at first I was so scared that I could never fill her pawprints, but I guess I am doing o.k.

Thank you, Ms. Bev Hollis for all the wonderful, wonderful photo graphs of our Princess.
So. Do you want to see what Ms. Bev and her staff of helpers look like? Of course you do

Here they are.....Michelle, Brandy and Mr. Don, plus Ms. Bev in the snappy pants and yes --- knee pads. She is so silly!
When we get our pictures of our Rusty Man back I will do some Blogging about him, but just in case you want to see his little face, here it is:
And so, my friends. If you want to have the most amazing photo graphs of your pet and maybe even yourself, you must ask your Mouse Person to take you immediately to visit Ms. Bev at Bev Hollis Photography Take some time and look around her wonderful website and at all the amazing pictures. Follow her on Twitter @bevhollis (don't forget me @BloggingBob) and above all, book your photo shoot now. You will never be sorry that you have the memories she will help you make.
Love and Licks,
Bob

........... need to borrow Otto's collar and maybe his new vest too!
