Ladies first: Brooklyn, beautiful 2 year old German Shepherd who’ s mom is a bomb sniffing dog and dad is a movie star!

The gentleman California De Barriques, also known as a Big Cal is a two year old Belgian Shepherd (Malinois). Both dogs are amazingly obedient and smart, the treat bag never came out during the whole shoot.

We met at the Queensborough Landing  in New Westminster and since this is on leash area only, we first took the dogs to off leash “park” to burn out some energy..

Then the beach was in order..

Big Cal is one of the kind, the breed itself is rarely found in North America, but this one in not high strong, he can be gentle and loving. He is well trained and twice a week takes part in French Ring Sport. He is no a great swimmer yet my made his “mommy” proud by going in the water and doing few strokes on his own!

It is amazing how many different options for back grounds are in my own backyard.

Brooklyn is a sweet girl, she likes to keep Cal in line by nibbling on his heels. She is mommy girl!

I love these wooden walkways..

And the resting places with a river view..

I am so impressed with these dogs, I had Cal on the leash walking right next to my leg, no pulling forward just walking my speed gently.. It is so important with big dogs, especially working ones to have them listen to you.

Training is the best thing next to love that you can give to your animal. Both of you will be happier and relaxed.

I had to stop by Modern Dog Magazine office yesterday to finish some overdue product shots. When I was there last time I and saw Kaya, Connie’s (the owner and founder of MDM) dog, I kept thinking about her for a long time. For some unknown reason I wanted to photograph her so badly!  So this time I did. We did not spend much time together as Kaya does not like the cameras and there no way she will allow any lights near her face. So we took her out to the neighborhood patch of grass..

Kaya is an older lady, approaching 16, but still with it. She spends her days looking for food or resting quietly next to Connie’s desk on a comfy doggy bed. Or hangs out in the office with other dogs.

I cannot explain this, but I get such a powerfull vibe from this dog. Kaya has that something about her that calms me down, makes my voice softer and my eyes water.

She is the first dog that I photographed that you can follow on the twitter, isn’t this amazing?

You can also read a bit about her here and there in Connie’s Blog.

For some reason I was feeling little nostalgic today..black and white photos seemed to fit in with my mood.

April 18, 2009 marks Martie’s 10 years on this planet and I had a pleasure to photograph him and his sister on the very day of his B-day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARTIE!

It was a crisp spring morning, the due covered the park and  the sun just woke up. We walked from the house to the Deer Lake Park in Burnaby via winding trail in the forest. I cannot imagine a better start to my weekend. We got to the opens field and dog dogs were finally unleashed..

After dogs run around for a bit while I snapped some shots we decide that now in the time to do some bro and sis shots.

Colleen, Martie’s and Tisza’s mom was super helpful with getting them to sit and pose.. Tisza, was no as keen on sitting still as her older brother

As always it was a lot of fun, but to make it more fun for you here is a collage of funny things that I discovered looking at the shots..

Big thank you to Coleen for working so hard and patiently to get the dogs were we wanted them.

That would be it for the sneak peak..I have to find a better way to compress the photos… I try to make them super tiny for the web, but they lose so much in quality

Hello,

just a quick note to tell you all that I will be going away for extended period of time. If you were thinking of booking with me in the near future I still have some spaces avaliable before May 10th. May 10th is my cut off date for sessions under spring promotion.

I will be back in Vancouver in July. I will be traveling to Poland and Germany and doing some limited sessions there so if you are in Wroclaw, Zakopane, Gdansk or Munich please drop me a line and I might be able to work with your dog.

I will be trying to update my blog when I am in Europe, so please check with me once in a while. I hoping to capture some beautiful dogs with some interesting old architecture in the background.

Wishing everyone a great spring, you will still hear from me before the trip!

Angie

Three black dogs, blasting sun, super wet grass and no shade what so ever.. Sounds like a fun? Well I was just visiting with their mom at Canine Harmony and decided to snap a few pictures of Jade, Tundra and Caleb (you met him in my previous post). Unfortunately there was a little time to get to know these dogies, but I will still like to share..

tundra_blog8

Tundra is a 12 year old female Chow Mix and Jade is an 8 year old male Border Collie Mix.

tundra_blog3

Looking at her, I could never tell that is is already 12, her sister looks and acts more mature at the age of 8. See for yourself…

tundra_blog5

Caleb, Jade and Tundra have a lot of friends that visit everyday and I thought I will feature them here too..
