  • Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon Benefits Helen Woodward Animal Center

    Rovers are riding a wave of excitement as they get ready for the start of the 9th annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon an event that combines sport with support for a paws cause.

    Taking place September 7th, more than 80 Moondoggies will hang 20 at Del Mar Dog Beach in Del Mar, California in a canine competition benefiting the Helen Woodward Animal Center, a non-profit, no-kill facility which has helped our furry friends in need for more than 40 years.

  • Traveling to the Vet’s Office

    We talk a lot about traveling with our dogsbut sometimes, as with this week, that travel isnt a day trip or vacation. Instead, its a trip to the veterinarians office.

    As you know, on Monday Irie had TPLO surgery for a torn ACL. The previous Friday, we headed to our regular vets office then Monday we were off to a specialist for surgery. That meant car trips to the vets office on Friday, Monday and again on Tuesday when Irie returned home.

    Recently the San Francisco SPCA sent us a warning about a hazard that we know might surprise some pet parents: escalators. The warning noted that two SF SPCA hospitals, in the Mission and Pacific Heights, regularly receive emergency visits for escalator-related injuries. Dogs paws can get caught between the moving escalator steps, leading to severe wounds.
