Waiting in my in-box this morning: two items pertaining to my favorite breed – the pit bull . The first was a Google news alert letting me know that Michael Vick made his only start as a Philadelphia Eagle in a pre-season home game last night. According to the article, his performance was brief and largely uninspired. And yes, this is the same Michael Vick who maimed, tortured, and killed dogs for pleasure.

The second item contained all the inspiration, hope, and satisfaction missing from the first alert: Jason Flatt, founder of Friends to the Forlorn pit bull rescue, was asked to help provide comfort to 200 pit bulls who were recovered from a Jefferson County, Ohio, property. The rescue was carried out by the Humane Society of the United States .

Flatt flew out this past Sunday and helped facilitate the well-being of the 200 dogs rescued by HSUS; all are now being housed and cared for in an undisclosed location. Authorities haven’t yet said whether they believe the pit bulls were intended or used for dog fighting.

And yes, this is the same Jason Flatt who rescued Belle Jenni (pictured) and hundreds of other animals from abuse, fighting rings, and the brink of starvation. I’m pretty sure Flatt doesn’t earn an NFL-sized salary and his name is not as ubiquitous as Vick’s. But now that HSUS has benefitted from both Vick and Flatt in their mission to end animal cruelty, my hope is that only the latter is hailed as a hero.

OMG I have to agree that these dogs are better off with the owner than with the pound. These dogs will ALL BE KILLED IF THEY ARE LEFT IN THE HANDS OF THOSE DEMONS RUNNING THE POUNDS!!! ____Also, does anyone know what happened to the little brown pit in the photo??? Don't let them kill this poor thing - I'm in CA, but if no one else will take him/her, I can find someone and maybe arrange transport.

I have an idea!! Give some of the dogs back to its rightful owner. Surely they would be in better hands there than staring the likelyhood of lethal injection as an end result. Everybody knows at this point that this man was NOT fighting these animals and the accusations are frivolous. Sorry but the HSUS get a BIG thumbs DOWN on this one. Thank you to all that helped in taking care of these animals but the right thing to do in this situation would have been to help this man adopt out some of his dogs that he had rather than to come in like the gestopo, make false accusations about the whole fighting BS and take his livelyhood away from him. I'm sure many of you were brainwashed into thinking that was the case but IT WAS NOT. Now the end result is they face DEATH. So sad.

I understand these dogs are in a situation today where they would either have to be moved or put down. Isn't there anything anyone can do to help them now? Can you help Jason?
