How To Choose Your Dog
Why You’ll Buy From Puppy Farms and Puppy Mills Without Knowing
on Thursday September 27th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Ive been a bit quiet recently because theres been a lot of behind the scenes work on the website. Thats continuing!
But Ive been alarmed by a growing number of reports on puppy farms (puppy mills) and large-scale commercial dog breeding.
Puppy farming is rife. Even more so with the rise of the internet. The internet is a wonderful, anonymous tool for puppy farms and puppy mills to hide their horrors behind glossy, cute pictures.
If you are thinking of buying a puppy, this is vital information....
Beating The Blues – Sometimes However Good Life Is You Just Get Down
on Tuesday August 28th, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Today Im a bit low. I thought Id share that with you.
Do you have days when you get out of bed and life seems dull or flat or worse?
Today was a lovely day. The sun was shining and Kylah and Arwen were ready for their long morning walk. No sign of the rain and clouds we had yesterday. So why did I feel so un-inspired?
If you have a partner who works away a lot youll probably understand. My partner Robin (my lovely man whom I adore completely) works away in London during the week. He lives in a...
Are We Over-Vaccinating Our Dogs?
on Tuesday August 28th, 2012 at 10:12 PM
I have a question for you.
Are we over-vaccinating our dogs?
The inspiration for todays post came from a new dog-friend of mine, Kimberly Gauthier, who is a blogger, dog lover, photographer and more.
She asked this question via a service called Help A Reporter Out (HARO).
Its something Ive wondered about for a while. Actually a great friend of mine, Deb Kidwell, an azawakh breeder from Virginia, sent me information about this several years ago which Ive pondered ever since.
So heres what I said...
Life Thoughts – Walk The Dog Using Your Boat?
on Thursday July 26th, 2012 at 06:28 PM
I walk the dogs along the canals near where I live (as well as further afield).
And several times per day I see what is for me a very strange sight. That is boats chugging past with the boat owners dog or dogs standing on the deck.
It seems crazy to me that boat owners dont just have their dogs running alongside. Why have to take your dog for a walk when you stop, when you could exercise it while youre moving? If you move the boat 5 miles thats a decent dog walk. If you do 10 or 15 miles thats...

An Open Letter About Care for Dogs and Puppies at Unlicensed Puppy Mills
on Wednesday July 25th, 2012 at 07:19 PM
I was contacted yesterday by a friend of mine and directed to a campaign about dogs and puppies at unlicenced puppy mills in the USA.
For a long time I have been horrified at how we so-called civilised nations treat animals in general. I am not a supporter of any kind of intensive rearing of animals, whether they are farm animals or pet ones.
For many years, dog lovers all over the world have been duped into buying dogs and puppies from puppy mills without knowing what it is they support. This...
Think About Your Weather When Bringing A New Puppy Home!
on Tuesday July 24th, 2012 at 11:50 PM
Gosh its HOT here! Its so hot that Vinnie (my old greyhound) is panting, lying down indoors. British weather is so unpredictable. Its either cold and wet, or baking.
Thats why today I wanted to ask you to think about your weather when bringing a new puppy home.
Any dog or puppy you choose has to fit your household and lifestyle. Thats a given.
But when deciding which dog breed or rescue dog to choose, you will usually find several dogs that fit the bill. Its rarely true that only one breed or...
Rescue Dog Adoption Or Buy A Dog Instead?
on Thursday July 5th, 2012 at 08:15 PM
This article raises the question on whether you should go for rescue dog adoption or buy a dog instead. It came from a question on LinkedIn:
Why do so many people who call themselves animal lovers still purchase a pet rather then rescue one?
This topic generated a lot of interest, as you can imagine!
I can see both sides of the story, as a former rescue volunteer / rescue adopter and someone who has bought dogs too as puppies.
I always try rescue dog adoption first. However When I was looking...
