Two kittens were abandoned and found swimming in an icy raw sewage treatment facility last week. They were rescued and immediately taken for medical treatment. The Briggs family had two cats for two decades and thought they would never get another cat again until she saw the devastating condition these two kittens were in.
Beverly Briggs cried for two days and was determined to give these kittens a home with unlimited amount of love and care.

A cat named George was severely burnt during Halloween. His face and paws were charred. His eyes were shut by his wounds, so at the time no one knew if his eyes were still intact. When he was sent to a clinic, an area veterinarian was not sure if he would be able to survive the ordeal, let alone regaining his vision. The vicious act of animal cruelty left the cat disfigured. The vet had to remove parts of the cat’s ears in order to prevent infections.
Though no one was convinced that George would be able to survive because his life was hanging on by mere threads, George defied all odds. Not only did he get better in the past three weeks, his wounds are still healing, his eyes are open and he is playful as ever.
Though many people have expressed interest in adopting this little feline, the Toledo Area Humane Society is not sure if they will put George up for adoption. They are considering keeping George as a mascot to show people what animal cruelty can do to these creatures.
Below is a video report on the news. WARNING: the injury shown in the video is very graphic.

(Frederick News-post) A cat named Sparkles lived as a domesticated indoor cat for nine years until his owner decided to turn him into an outdoor cat outside his new home. The man, Gregory Moser, 30, was eventually convicted of four counts of animal cruelty in Frederick County District Court.
Sparkles was severely emaciated due to extreme dehydration and hypothermia after being let loose outside for a month. When he was rescued by Animal Control, he weighed only 4 pounds where his normal weight should have been in the 10 – 12 pound range.
The outside temperature was below freezing. Moser and his wife made frequent trips to visit Sparkles before they moved into the new house. He built a makeshift like structure and placed some bedding inside for the cat. However, Moser stopped seeing the cat after he saw carcasses of birds in the area, assuming the cat was fending for himself.
When Sparkles was found, he seemed to have been starved for at least 7 – 14 days. There was no sight of food and water in the location. No trace of food was found in his digestive tract. His ears showed signs of frostbite.
Though Sparkles’ condition was so severe, he managed to survive under the care of Animal Control and later was fostered by a family.
If charged with animal cruelty, one can carry up to 90 days in prison and a $1,000 fine.
