  • Dating your (Chemo) Mouthwash

Today has been a slightly tough day for me, emotionally. I think a large part of that is due to the fact that Im sitting on another constipation issue.

So, to get myself out of this blue funk, Ive taken some Phillips Milk of Magnesia. And tackled a little craft project.

One of the side effects of chemotherapy is the possibility of sores in your mouth and/or throat. My Oncology Nurse has given me a recipe for a mouthwash (1 tablespoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 quart of water) that I use to...

    from My Flat Pet

    Tuesday April 14th, 2015 at 12:47 PM

Im really happy to be able to say that the Anti-Constipation Plan seems to be working. At least, it worked very well this morning. Well see what happens the rest of the week.

So, here I am for my second chemo treatment. April is Cycle 1. I have 1 treatment per week for 3 weeks, then a vacation week. That makes one cycle.

Up until yesterday, Ive been sharing this experience on a private group on Facebook. I announced Siggy on my Facebook timeline yesterday, and I am overwhelmed and humbled by...

  • Chemo Cycle 1.1, Sunday and Monday

    from My Flat Pet

    Monday April 13th, 2015 at 05:03 PM

I think yesterday and today have been my lowest points of the week. I just feel blah. Not even blah! with an exclamation point. Just, simply, blah. And the constipation has not helped me.

I had a conversation with the oncology nurse yesterday. She spoke to the doctor, and then called me back. The doctor recommended 5-ccs of Milk of Magnesia every 12 hours. Thats a whole teaspoon. The normal amount is 2-tablespoons. ONE TEASPOON???? No.

I ended up taking the maximum amount (4-tablespoons), and...

  • Chemo Cycle 1.1, Saturday

    from My Flat Pet

    Saturday April 11th, 2015 at 06:35 PM

The oncologist nurse told me I didnt need to take my anti-nausea med after Friday, so today Ive got nothing helping my digestion a first since my surgery. And my day was blessed with no upset tummy. But Ive had an off-and-on headache all day, and Ive been feeling a bit slow. The chemo is definitely affecting my sleep patterns, which probably accounts for my thick head.

    So, side effects:

Headache Inturrupted sleep patterns Feeling slow Constipation (yes, its still an issue)

    But things could be...

  • Chemo Cycle 1, Friday

    from My Flat Pet

    Friday April 10th, 2015 at 05:14 PM

The past 24 hours have been very uncomfortable. And theres only one word for it: constipation.

Yes, this is a gross topic. But its important to mention for anyone reading this whos also going through chemo. Know your body. If you think youre starting to back up, take a stool softener.

I am not going to go into details about last nights 3 AM date with the porcelain bowl and how I thought I was going to blow out my rectum because I was so backed up. What I will say is that I wish I had listened...

  • Chemo Cycle 1, Thursday

I had around 36-hours of manic Energizer Bunny energy, and then this afternoon I crashed. Just after lunch I started yawning, eventually ending up snoozing on my bed. Right now my head is muddled and the yawns just keep on coming. So its off to bed for me where I will hopefully sleep the night through.

Now, if only I could poop.

  • 3:15 AM Reveals a New Side Effect

    from My Flat Pet

    Thursday April 9th, 2015 at 12:52 AM

One of Gemmas less common side effects is listed as difficulty sleeping. Guess whos sitting on her bed typing instead of snoozing?

This could also be due to the storm moving through Tyler does not like thunder so he wont settle down. But I dont think so. Im wide awake. I did not take any naps today, and after running errands, cleaning house and vacuuming I should be tired.

The storm has moved through and Mr. Tyler is sleeping beside me. Im trying to think of what I can clean that wont wake up...
