Square_140_thumbnail-sylvester All my dad's cats have gone to "cat heaven" but I still think of them and miss them. Kittens Spunky Rooey on top - the one I took in; renamed Spunky Doodle as it grew up. Razzle Frazzle Very bushy shy cat who never wanted to come inside. Sweet Thing aka Whacky My favorite of dad's cats-very shy, loved to be brushed.. Sylvester Very affectionate, had feline aids and private room. Softie Looked like Blackie, playful little thing and very soft. Timi Liked sneaking out but always came back....
  • Oh No! Am I Becoming A Pack Rat Too? (Writer's Workshop)

Square_140_workshop-button-1 As I was making the video below, I couldn't help but think about my dad and how much like him I am. It seemed to me he kept everything in case he would need it some day or could fix it up and use it again. Consequently, his garage, basement, attic, and house had a narrow path in which to walk with stuff piled on either side like the Red Sea when God parted the waters for the Israelites to walk across! Dad's Dining Room I'm not that bad . . . yet, but my den closet fits that description. So...
  • Kitten Krazy Makes Good Use of Dad's Work

    from My Funny Dad, Harry

on Sunday April 28th, 2013 at 11:54 AM

(Bench made by dad) Sven & Wendy (President of Kitten Krazy at her home in Medina, Ohio) When my dad died, I donated a lot of his things to Kitten Krazy, a non-profit private organization that primarily does kitten adoptions. Many of the things I donated to their auction to help them raise money to remodel their shelter and take care of the cats. Some of the things donated are now being used in the shelter. Today was the first time we got to visit and see the place first-hand. My initial...
  • 13 Problems and Solutions

    from My Funny Dad, Harry

on Saturday April 20th, 2013 at 12:34 AM

My dad had diabetes and as he grew older, experienced many problems. He never complained or stewed about things, but always came up with a way to make things easier on himself. Below is a list of some of the problems my dad had and how he solved them. Problem: His eyeglasses fell off when he bent over. Solution: Wear an elastic band that holds them on. Problem: Arthritis in fingers so he had a hard time pulling up zippers. Solution: Attached a paper clip to the zipper to make it easier to...

I started this blog back in 2008 and have finally come to the end of my run with it. Anyone who has followed it knows that I have only post once or twice per month for about the last 5-6 months. • Valentine's Day Brings Up Sad Memory

    from My Funny Dad, Harry

on Monday February 13th, 2012 at 09:03 AM

Back in 2007, I remember we had a huge snowstorm on valentine's day and I didn't stop in to see my dad before work that day because of all the snow. I normally stopped by to visit him before going to work and then got the bus from his house. That was on a Wednesday. When I stopped in two days later on Friday, I found him dead on his bathroom floor and I still think about that terrible day every Valentine's day. Over time, the memory has faded some but it's very hard when people die around a...
  • Consider The Hammer

    from My Funny Dad, Harry

on Monday January 16th, 2012 at 07:00 PM

My dad loved woodworking and carpentry so it came as no surprise to me when I found this poem on a church bulletin he saved from 1947. I think it was written by Rev. William Whiteman.: CONSIDER THE HAMMER It keeps its head. It keeps pounding away. It doesn't fly off the handle. It looks at the other side too. It finds the point, then drives it home. It makes mistakes, but starts all over. It is the only knocker in the world that does any good. There aren't many tools I know how to use, but...
  • A Note From Dad--You're In The Game!

    from My Funny Dad, Harry

on Thursday December 29th, 2011 at 11:49 PM

For my final post of 2011 on this blog, I decided to share a note I found when straightening my desk written by my dad. I never noticed it before because it was on the backside of a pink index card invitation to a "Youth For Christ" meeting. It must have either been some sermon notes he took or else a devotional thought he had. It was written in pencil so is hard to read, but here is what it says: Game, Sport A great many people thoroughly enjoy watching a good game; the most popular seems to...
