One of the most common questions we've had lately has been regarding our post on the new India pet import requirements, specifically with regards to our post about the new "No Objection Certificate," or "NOC."

We decided to reach out to our agents in India to obtain information for those interested in acquiring the NOC on their own. Here is what we received back.

The NOC needs to be obtained by a local representative at the arriving city only.

Documents required to apply for the NOC:

- Owner's name, address , phone number/s in the originating county of the pets and in receivers name, address, phone numbers in India

- In case of Non-commerical Movement (one pet per passenger / per owner)
Passport copy of the owner , with copies of the following pages
(i) First page or page with Photo and name of person
(ii) Page of India Visa if foreigner (doesnt matter if its a tourist /business/employment visa)
(iii) Person of Indian Origin Card (PIO Card) for persons of Indian Origin with Foreign passport
(iv) Page of foreign Country's visa if person or owner of the pet is an Indian Citizen with an Indian Passport either on holiday/work/employment/tourism/study in the foreign country where the pet is originating for shipment from

The NOC is VALID FOR 7 Days from the date of issuance.

Anyone can apply for the NOC (as per law) but unfortunately due to security reasons (as of now because of the terror attacts etc. ) it is easier for Certified Agents / Importers can enter the area of office of the Quarantine Station.

Order of Issuance:
  1. The NOC must be obtained before the pet is loaded at the exporting country.
  2. The full NOC is obtained after the pet lands in India, is inspected by the Quarantine officer and all original documents are examined by the officer.
  3. The final NOC is obtained one (1) month after the pet's arrival into India or upon departure from India, whichever is sooner.

Failure to Obtain the NOC:
Customs will not allow offloading of live animals without NOC and will insist on their re-exportation back [to the place of loading/origin], at the shipper's expense.

If you have additional questions, or to hire us to obtain your pet's NOC (our prices generally start at about $1500 USD to obtain the Full & Final NOC), please contact us.
