A new species of bird has been found in Laos - the aptly named Bare Faced Bulbul.

Cute or not cute?  One of my coworkers thinks the bird looks like "skeksis" from the movie the Dark Crystal.

Laos is not one of the most popular destinations for shipping a dog but, nonetheless, the requirements and steps involved in doing so are pretty much relevant across the board for pets traveling to many of the various countries in the Asia/Pacific region of the world. You will need a Rabies Certificate, a vaccination history, a Health Certificate and an Import Permit. The procedure involved in obtaining the import permit is really the biggest variation between countries.

Dog pets moving to Laos
This is Banyan, a two year old Shepherd mix who is moving from the DC area to Vientiane, Laos. Laos is somewhat remote and because of this, we transit pets through Hong Kong. It is the same way we send pets to Cambodia and other countries in that region.

Banyan will arrive Hong Kong and stay in the Animal Holding Room at the Hong Kong Airport for the next day connecting flight to Vientiane as cargo. It's important to note that the transit time cannot exceed 24 hours for pets transiting Hong Kong.

The following documents are required in importing pet(s) into Laos:

1. Original rabies vaccination certificate stating that the animal has been vaccinated for not less than 30 days, but not more than one year before the arrival to destination country.
2. Original health certificate issued by the government of exporting country
3. Original owner's passport
4. Original AWB
5. Pet's photo
6. Full destination address, telephone number and email address

To obtain Import Permit, we need to have supporting documents at least 1 week in advance:
1. A copy Health Certificate and Vaccination record (Pet book)
2. A copy of Importer's passport
3 .A copy of AWB
4. Pet's photo
