Pups The Traveling Labrador

My host’s Buddy & Jewel were being filmed for a pilot for a reality TV show about the goings on of a dog wash in Austin.

It was interesting to watch, but the TV crew would not let me take pictures during the shoot. Darn, I was hoping for my big film debut! Maybe next time.  I actually dream of being just like Snoopy one day, or even a Muppet. That would be so pawsome. I can see me now, and today Boys and girls we are in Texas, Guess what I did there today?

Jewel really liked having a bath. She sat there nice and pretty and let everyone love on her. Buddy said that if everyone was as well behaved as Jewel that what good would the show be, so he was the designated Bad Boy.

But I did take some pictures of the facility and with Blair who is one of the owners. She gave me a wonderful bath and now I smell as good as Buddy and Jewel. I also got a picture with the film crew.

On Thursday I’m off to help Heart of Texas Lab Rescue pick up some items for their big fund raiser on November 7th in San Antonio. Ray, who is Buddy & Jewels domestic help, says we are going to go to Sweet Leaf Iced Tea and pick up a donation. Yum!!! I love Iced Tea.

I arrived at Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue!

Wow!! what a trip from Virginia. I got to fly first class all the way to Austin, Texas and enjoyed my flight.

The stewardesses were very nice and kept bringing me snacks. Even though I flew first class I was tired when I arrived on Friday so I hung out with my host Buddy & Jewel who are with Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue. They let me cuddle up with them while they told me all about HOTLab Rescue.

Buddy & Jewel were both abandoned and have Heartworms so they are recovering at their foster home until they are well enough to go to their forever home. They live with Ray.

They said that they have to hang out and relax all day and are not supposed to get excited, run, jump or play for another month. They said that they were so lucky to be with HOTLab.

They told me about lots of Labbies who HOTLab has helped to find new homes with families that will love and take care of them. They said that HOTLab is an all volunteer group and that all the Labs that are in the program, as they call it, live in foster homes. I really liked that idea.

Saturday: Buddy & Jewel said that they could not come out sightseeing with me. But they said that Ray was a lot of fun and that I would see some wonderful sites. So Ray & I went off to see some of what makes Austin special. After a breakfast at Rudys for breakfast Taco, we went to Red Bud Isle.

WOW, it sure is pretty here. I think I got too much sun though!

This has to be the most wonderful dog park on earth. There were dogs running leash free all over the place. Ray seemed to know everyone. We got to watch two of HOTLab’s alumnae out swimming. I forgot to bring my swim trunks so could not join in.

Red Bud Isle is an Island in the middle of Lady Bird Lake. Ray said that Lady Bird Lake was named after Lady Bird Johnson, a former first Lady of the United States who loved wild life and especially loved dogs and wanted a place for them to be able to swim and play in Austin.

As we were leaving I got to see none other than the pawsome Lance Armstrong out for a training ride.

WOW,  a real huge Celebrity!!!!

I wonder if he would let me ride along with them. I am a pawsome cyclist!!

Ray said that Lance owned a cycling store in Austin named Mellow Johnnies. He said that during the Tour of Italy bicycle race that they held a fund raiser to help HOTLab raise money.

He said he would call a friend and see if we could visit next week. I hope Lance will be there, I sure would like to meet him in pawsome.   Oh My god, I would be so excited to meet him in person!!

After-ward’s I went to the State Capital. Austin is the capital of Texas.

Ray told me all about how the capital dome is larger then the one in Washington DC. I got to check out a Civil War cannon and have a refreshing drink from an Artisan well. While we were touring the grounds I got to see a tour group on Segways. That seemed like a lot of fun.

Next we went to have lunch at the Hula Hut. Boy was I glad I wore my Hawaiian shirt. Hula Hut is right on Lake Travis. Many people who come to have lunch there take their boats and park right next there. Ray said that not many boats were out since Austin is having a really bad drought. We were met by Doug who works with HOTLab Rescue.

Well that is how I spent my Saturday. Sunday was a Meet and Greet where families get to meet lucky Labbies. I’ll write more about that later as my Paws are getting a bit sore.

I attended the Meet the Breeds event in NYC that the AKC hosted this weekend!  Go Pet Friendly had a booth there and I was there assisting them in their booth.  I had such a great time. I met alot of doggies and met alot of new people!
