All these Joy Sessions lately make me really happy :) This one features two beautiful Golden Retrievers, Mason and Zach. Mason is the more “golden” of the two, and has cancer. Zach is the goofy “jumping bean” as his mom calls him! They’re both great boys and I had a wonderful time hanging out with them. Also, I think their mom is brilliant; when building an addition to her house, she had a custom “dog wash” made into the mud room. Faucet, sprayer, depressed area in the tile floor with a drain…. everybody should totally have one.
This is Mason. Isn’t he handsome? He *really* wanted me to see his toys when I came over…. I got the tail-wag-full-body-sway, he was so excited. He’s doing well on steroids that are keeping his tumors at bay. He tires out easily and is really thirsty all the time, but he’s definitely enjoying life!
Mason’s little brother, Zach, was adopted from RAGOM
They looooove being outside.
Thanks, boys! You were awesome.
This was a very special session to celebrate the relationship that Lorna and Hobbs have shared over the past 18 years. Lorna has Downs Syndrome, and Hobbs has been with her through almost half of her life. He must have been gorgeous in his prime, because he’s very striking even now. This old boy seems to have about 15 or 16 lives…. Amongst other difficulties, a few months ago, he had broken a leg, and went through with an amputation, coming out great. When I shot this session about two weeks ago, he was having kidney failure and wasn’t eating much. They weren’t sure how long he would be with us. I spoke with Lorna’s volunteer guardian yesterday, and Hobbs is still going strong! His appetite is back, and he seems to be feeling fine. It’s pretty incredible…… almost like he’s hanging on as long as he can to be by Lorna’s side.
This gorgeous Rottweiler just turned 5, and she has Lymphoma. She wasn’t doing well on chemo, so they stopped treatment, and she’s been feeling much better. She was very excited to show me her toys when I got to her house :)
Inca is one of the best-trained dogs I’ve had the pleasure to photograph, and she was a sweet, gentle snuggle-bunny. You’ll see some shave-marks on her legs from the vet, and she tired out pretty quickly when we took her outside, but other than that, you’d have no idea she was sick. Lots of love to Inca and her family.
This is her best friend, Ralphie, who came over show his support…. and get slobbered on.
This is one very loved dog.
Both Tommy and Sugar are rescues from Greyhound Pets of America, and I was super excited to have them in the studio for the February Rescue of the Month! Tommy is the big brindle boy, and Sugar is his little sister. Greyhounds can be so hilarious and and strange and beautiful…. it always makes me happy when I get to photograph them. They never disappoint.
Yes, she’s standing underneath him, and yes, she walked there of her own accord. I’m telling you…. hilarious :)
I’ve had lots of breed “firsts” in the studio lately, and Kirby was the first Bulldog that’s come over. He’s everything a Bulldog should be: wrinkly, slobbery, snuffly, happy, stubborn and oh-so-adorable! Between the tongue, the underbite, the smiles and the pleading eyes, this guy wins for most expressions, hands-down. I had tons of fun shooting him, and he had tons of fun eating treats and trying to “love up” my leg. Sorry buddy, no humping the photographer.
