Pet Products Review - c/d® Multicare with Chicken Feline by Hill's Prescription Diet

As you may know, I rely on an awesome panel of feline and canine tester.  This past week I've had the pleasure of working with Rookie.  Because I was pet sitting I was able to really watch his food consumption, behavior and energy as if he was my own.

Rookie is an 8 year old kitty who about a year ago was experiencing frequent but strained attempts to urinate.  His Mommy told me the Vet explained these were some of the first signs of a urinary condition.  You can imagine I've been interested in the perscription and Rookie's progress ever since.

What the Vet perscribed was a slight change in diet that included Hill's Perscription Diet c/d Feline Muliticare in a can.  Rookie gets 1 can a day.  Half a can in the morning and another half can in the evening.  At first I thought that 1 can was not going to be enough food.  My Stinky eats nearly a bowl a day of a dry and wet combo.  But after watching Rookie, I do notice although he lets me know he's hungry, 1 can a day does suffice.

As for his health, let me tell you, he is one fit kitty.  He is not overweight and has tremendous energy.  Certainly he is alert and full of expressions.  His coat is soft and luxurious.  Lastly, I saw no signs of relief outside the box.  My recommendation; Hill's Perscription Diet c/d mulitcare is an excellent product.  Knowing that it is prescribed by a vet gives me confidence in saying so.

Ask if your vet is a partner with Hill's Prescription Diet and if so, if they carry products for sale.  Otherwise, you can certainly find them online at PetSmart.com.

We use the Hill's foods for our miniature Schnauzer, Rex. Its a great line of brand products, and since feeding Rex the Hill's small bites, his weight has stayed the same, and he is definitely more regular.

Hill's c/d food changed our lives (and relationship with our cat, Ivan). For a few months, Ivan was having accidents - and kept trying to hide them. Our vet prescribed Hill's c/d and for the past 2 years, Ivan has not had any issues. There are many formulas (dry/canned) - your cat won't get bored!

Hill's c/d for cats also comes in a dry kibble. Its so good. If you've got a cat, ask your vet if you should start early on this feed. Trust me it helps agaist the urine crystals that make cats pee in places they shouldnt.

My sister in law swears by this stuff. And she's a tough nut to crack. So it must be good.

The dry food works well for my cats urinary problems. Unfortunantly she doesn't seem to digest it well and vomits it right back up often. She doesn't like the canned version.

I have always had good luck with this product. My kitty has had difficulty with Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's)in the past and this diet keeps him healthy and happy. Male cats typically have more trouble with urinary tract infections than female cats. This is a prescription diet - if your cat does not have urinary tract problems, then you should not use it and your veterinarian won't prescribe it. This food keeps dietary magnesium and phosphorus at near the minimum necessary amount to still keep the cat healthy. This helps prevent formation of struvite crystals which often cause UTI's. If your cat does not have urinary problems, then it is in their best interest to have more magnesium and phosphorus than this diet provides.

My cat is almost 17..will have to remain on this diet pernanently. He weighs just over 10 # and is not very active..would 1 1/2 can per day be suffient? He is also supposed to eat 1/2 cup dry Hills a day..he only wants to eat Purina One Urinary tract food or another dry food that some of the other cats eat..I am going crazy tryng to keep him going but I love him so much he is worth it. I have 3 other house cats who do not have urinary tract problems so must separate them 3 times a day and they are all used to self feeding..no one is happy here right now but they will get used to the new lifestyle..I HOPE!!!!

I have 2 cats, one has recently been put on the c/d dry food. As we use an open feeding system, both cats will need to be on the same diet. The sick cat loves it, the other cat will not eat it. Any ideas

I use the Hill's brand C/D Dry for my cat Ivan and it is quite frankly the best. He gobbles it down and doesnt even know its very healthy for him. Hill's makes the best products for cats that I've ever used.

I agree with the comments above. If you want your cat or your dog to be healthy, feed them Hill's

I've worked in shelters since my retirement for 8 years and I have to tell you Hill's is so generous with giving shelters food and valuable resources. The Science Diet brands are superior. We love Hill's and Science Diet. Thanks.

I know it's prescribed by my vet for the struvite crystals, but Science Diet in any form is full of fillers and garbage. I understand it [c/d] is a prescription formula and does have it's advantages, but I absolutely hate feeding my cats a food where the first ingredient is a by-product. I've been feeding the dry c/d for some time, and now am making the switch to canned for the increased moisture.

My cat loves this food. I give her a 1/4 can twice a day. When I switched her from dry food (Iams) she got a little constipated, so my vet recommended that I add 2-4 tbs. of water to the food to increase her fluid intake. I was skeptical, but she eats every bite of the food and drinks all the water, too.
