Pet Products Review - Jet Blue - Jet Paws Pet Airline Travel Program

If you've been reading my blog, you will have figured out by now my two passions in life are my pets and traveling.  I swear every single last dollar goes to either the pets or travel.  To combine the two is wonderful.  That's why I applaud Jet Blue.  They're making it easy, safe and rewarding to travel with your pet.

JetBlue Airways just today announced the Jet Paws program as an "in-cabin", yes "in cabin" program that lets you and your jetset small cat or dog travel in style.

Best of all, your pet earns travel points.  So, now when my friend Soo Jin brings her Yorkie named Chanel to visit me in New York, both Soo Jin and Chanel earn points.  Who can pass up double miles???? Not me, it just makes dog-gone sense.  After all earning more points was the driving factor in which Jet Paws was built on.

Go to http://jetblue.com/jetpaws  for more information.  There you will find a comprehensive Pet Travel Guide along with a Pet Travel Checklist.  Read both! And while you're there, up load a picture of your pet for the JetBlue Pet Look-Alike photo contest.

To complete the ensemble of travel, and luxury, Jet Blue is working with famous New York Post celebrity columnist Cindy Adams to design the Jet Paws travel carrier and ammenities kit.

Please keep in mind that inorder for a program like Jet Paws to work Jet Blue has to set up some rules to make the experience for all travelers a smooth ride.

Here are some of the JetBlue limitations:

  • JetBlue accepts up to four small cats or dogs in the cabin of the aircraft on both domestic and international flights.
  • The combined weight of the pet and carrier may not exceed 20 pounds.
  • Only one pet is allowed per customer and the pet carrier does count as one personal carry-on item.
  • For the safety and comfort of all customers, pets must remain in the closed carrier at the airport and in-flight for the entire duration of the trip.
  • To book a pet, customers must call the reservations team at 1-800-JETBLUE.

Happy travels!  Send me comments on how your trip went!  Pictures too!

I wonder if Jet Blue is going to create a pet section of the plane, kind of like how the back of the plane was the smoking section? This way people allergic to pets won't be anywhere near the 4-legged fliers.

Whats nice about this program is that your pet is always in your site and possession. We read all the time about how pets escape from their cages and run away. I couldn't imagine anything worse. I wish my dog was under 20 lbs so that I could bring him on my next Jet Blue flight to San Diego.

This is terrific news. Now I can take my dog on all of my trips to Florida. I will have to do a story about this on my web site @ www.dailykibble.com

As much has I would like to think this is great, most other airlines ofter the same service. I have two animals, one is ok to travel the other is a couple of pounds to heavy. I'm a professional person and would love to travel on the plane with my animals. They are well trained. I would never allow my animals to travel under the plane. There's a new company called Pet Airways that would allow your animal to fly in the cabin but without you. They haven't gotten off the ground yet. Meaning they are new and are expected to start sometime this year. I'm holding my breath because no one has been successful in creating a airlines just for pets. If someone out there would create a company such as Pet Airways or Jet Blue that would allow us to fly with our pets in cabin regardless of weight etc. and did it right. That company would make a mint. Personally I will drive to hell and back before I leave my pets or allow them to fly without me in cabin or otherwise. Something has to be done. We want all members of our family to travel with us. I own my business and have disposable income to accommodate the price of being able to take my pets with me. I am a responsible pet parent and would follow all the rules. May Jet Blue since you are flying now you could offer a couple of flights just for pets and pet parents??? That would be awesome!!! Thanks for trying to accommodate us. Cynthia, Sam & Oreo

I love JetBlue. Those little TVs in the seats make the trip go so much faster. And knowing that I can bring my little one on board with me, well that takes out a lot of worry thinking he's in some cold hull.

Pet Paws program is a FRAUD On the flight to West Palm Beach and return both ground personnel and plane crew were rude and demanding. They clearly had combative attitude not one that would help resolve a solvable problem in a manner consistent with FAA rules. The gate supervisor rudely tried to stop me from taking my daughter's pet which did not fit under the seat 3A which was in front of her seat 4A to my seat to the area in front of my seat 14C. The area under the window seat appeared to be a smaller area than the aisle seat though the supervisor vociferously argued to the contrary. Other passengers were shocked with his attitude, especiall when I asked if I could try to fit the pet carrier in the seat in front of my seat. I showed him a ticket that clearly demonstrated the pet was officially traveling with me and therefore I should be given the opportunity to put the carrier in front of my seat. with the encouragement of other passengers I ignored the belligerent supervisor and carried the pet carrier back to my seat and easily slid the container under the seat in front of me. I was a big supporter of Jet Blue but recently, I have noticed a huge decline in customer service and a horrible attitude among some crew members. I intend to pursue this matter with the airline. The PET PAW program is a FRAUD Jet Blue is JET RUDE in my book

Here is a chart that I found on CNN today. It does a great job of comparing the policies of each airline for both baggage and pets: http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/06/24/airline.fees/index.html
