The Westminster Kennel Club 133rd Annual Dog Show

My post tonight is not one of a product review, but rather an experience.  Today I attended the The Westminster Kennel Club 133rd Annual Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  All I can say is "WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!" what an experience.  Quite simply, if you are a dog lover, you must go some time in your life.  And no it doesn't matter if you're a breed fanatic, or believe you should only adopt rescue dogs, its not about that.  The Westminster Kennel Club Annual Dog Show is simply a celebration and showcase of the most beautiful and charming of God's creatures.

The show started at 8am, and I was a few hours late, arriving at 11am and let me tell you, after getting there, I wish I had not missed those beginning hours.  I was mesmerized the entire time.  The Westminster Kennel Club Annual Dog Show is nothing like what you see on TV.  Unlike what you see on TV, there are actually 5 show rings holding competition simultaneously. Each dog breed is so completely unique as are each one of their little competitions. And needless to say, you can't help but fall in love with each and every breed. So there is never a dull moment.  In fact, it's sensory overload.

My favorite breed shows were: Airedale Terrier (they are so cool!), American Foxhounds (simply canine perfection),Bichons Frises (simply the cutest thing I've ever seen), Old English Sheepdogs (I was amazed how agile and sophisticated they are), and of course because my dog Champ is a Sheltie the Shetland Sheepdogs.  But you know what, every single dog in The Westminster Kennel Club 133rd Annual Dog Show was a winner.  To my novice eye, every dog was shear perfection.  Well......except for the Poodles.  I've never seen anything so silly looking in my life.  They really over do it.

Funny I thought to myself if I was a dog, and walked into the Miss America contest it would probably have the same affect.

I applaud the judges, because that is one tough job they have.  And the handlers who show case the dogs and run with them; thats hard work! and the dogs who were not fazed at all by the applause, noise, flashbulbs and smell of hotdogs.  Of course the first thing I did when I got home was make an appointment with a local groomer for my dog Champ.

Again, I don't know much about the tight community that surrounds The Westminster Kennel Club 133rd Annual Dog Show and pedigree dog breed and shows, all I know is that put attending The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on your list of things to do at least once in your life.
