Pet Product Review - Adjustable Dog Wheelchair - Walkin' Wheels(tm)  for Handicapped Pets

You know when Champ was sick, I looked at every option available to me that would allow me to keep my pup in my life just a little bit longer.  At one point I thought the help of a canine wheel chair may be a good option.  With that I researched and researched until I found just the right mobility product that I felt comfortable buying, and would be flexible enough to fit my lifestyle too.  The one I recommend is the Adjustable Dog Wheelchair - Walkin' Wheels(tm)  for Handicapped Pets.

There are many reason why I love this product.  For one, its stylish, and portable, folding up into a small and convenient pack.  The wheels come at a variety of thicknesses, so if you're dog wants to really tear up the dog run, well now he can.  But, most of all it doesnt look like a disability wheel chair, your dog wont feel disadvantaged using it.  You may be laughing, but dogs are keenly aware of how they look, just like people.

The price is in line with other mobility wheel chairs I researched.  The products start at $399, but keep in mind that every wheelchair is completely customized to your dog's size and weight.  There is a site that has all of this information:  www.handicappedpets.com

I like the site and you can make your orders at: http://handicappedpets.com/www/index.php/dog-wheelchair-carts.html

But I do have a huge complaint about this site.  They have temporary wheelchair rentals.  What a wonderful idea.  But I called their office, sent them an email and it took two full weeks for them to get back to me.  Well, Handicapped Pets... don't you think if someone calls your office, they're looking for a solution right away???   Based on that, if you're looking for a retailer that will give you customer service buy the product on www.entirelypets.com.

They probably don't call you back because they know the survival rate of dogs who have rapid hind leg deterioration is very low. Plus, it makes them a whole lot more money when you buy a new wheel chair. It is a shame its a good idea to have rental of dog wheel chairs.

I had the same problem; after I tried contacting Handicappedpets.com, I became frustrated rather quickly. I then called Eddie's Wheels, and they were responsive and eager to help, in addition to having a far superior product to offer.

Does.. anyone know of a place that I can get this product alot.. less? Ebay even.. Mabe someones dog passed on and they wish to sell it cheap.. I would donate mine.. This is a rip off.. Because.. My dog is 17.5 years old.. and only weighs 23 pounds.. There is no way.. I am paying 300-500.00 that I do not nearly even have.. for this product that will out live the dog and my other two dogs are larger.. This is insane and a money maker.. I wish.. you can rent them.. or get them wholesale.. or on Craigs list.. I dont know what to look up.. there are no Canine medical devise stores.. unfortunately.. If Anyone has any information.. that can help me.. please email me at starrfillednights2007@yahoo.com Thank You.. Leah

Strange - I had the complete opposite experience. I called Eddies Wheels and they wanted me to take about a dozen measurements and wait about two weeks for the wheelchair. I said I wanted it in blue if possible and told me it would cost an extra $200 and take an additional week! Stormy wants to walk again now! Also, their RETURN POLICY WAS AWFUL! Even if Stormy didn't survive for three weeks I still had to pay for the wheelchair. I couldn't resell it unless I found a dog of the same measurements. Anyway, I bought the Walkin' Wheels from HandicappedPets.com, it came the next day, I adjusted it (REALLY EASY) and Stormy is getting exercise - peeing a pooping, and even went swimming. I did notice that there is a great used market for the Walkin' Wheels -- although they're pretty expensive even used -- which suggests that when I don't need it anymore, I'll be able to get most of my money back. I think it's a great value from a great company.

Hear Hear to CHARLES above. Walkin' Wheels has terrible customer service. I recommended them to a neighbor of mine simply because I could not think of any other company of their kind. No one returned their desperate calls. The poor dog ultimately lost out due to neglect of options rather than care.
