Pet Product Review - Handmade confections by Sucré
Sucré is a New Orleans based confectioner known for their delectable, hand-crafted artisan chocolates as well as their scrumptious pastries and macaroons, which are even Oprah-approved! This holiday season, a portion of every dollar spent online will go to benefit the LA/SPCA. The wonderful people at Sucré sent me their New Orleans gift box to sample and I couldn't think of a more tasty way to ring out my 2009 diet and ring in the holidays!
First, the packaging is just beautiful! If it weren't for the sweet delicacies whispering to me from inside the boxes (like the call of the Sirens), I probably would have left all of the ribbons intact and used them as holiday decorations this season. But open them I did, and boy, I was not disappointed. Yummy candied pecans, macaroons, melt-in-your-mouth chocolates, a pecan loaf and the aroma of the Sucré whole bean coffee all seemed to be chanting, "Try me first!" My waistline can attest to the fact that I sampled each and every treat and, for a moment, I could have sworn I heard the sensuous sound of jazz emanating from the can of candied pecans! Delicious!

Pet Product Review - No Scratch spray by Pet Organics
I purchased this product out of sheer desperation! My cats had gone to work on our new sofa and I vowed that I would not let them destroy one more thing in my house! It claims to be safe, non-staining and contains herbal essentials (garlic oil & clove oil), that discourage cats from scratching. The instructions say to apply it once a day for a few days and then as needed.
I first applied it to the areas of the sofa that the cats seemed to be focusing on. I applied it every day for 4 days. The first week the cats started clawing the couch just outside the perimeter of the sprayed area so I sprayed some more! It seemed to work for a couple of days at a time but then the cats would be right back at it, clawing the couch in the treated areas (I could even swear the darling little devils were laughing at me as they clawed with glee while staring at my bewildered expression). After reapplication they would back off for another day, maybe two.
Bottom line: I would say that it works if you are diligent in your reapplications. Perhaps my cats are a little more headstrong than yours and will cringe at the scent. To the human nose it smells very pleasant and is true to its claim to be non-staining. Personally, I may try applying fresh garlic directly to the couch, no humans will want to sit there but, hey, it will be preserved for future generations.

Pet Product Review - Simple Essential Treats by Hill's Science Diet
I recently came across a coupon for the new Science Diet Simple Essentials Treats and decided our old yellow Lab, Joey, was due for a change of pace in the treat realm.
The Simple Essentials Treats come in beef and chicken flavors and are targeted to meet a variety of health needs. I chose the "Mobility" treats for Joey since he is getting on in years and his arthritis seems to be acting up more and more lately.
Joey has been given one treat a day for the last 2 weeks and I can honestly say that for the first time in several weeks he has had no trouble leaping onto the bed for his nightly cuddles or shown signs of struggling to get up and down the stairs. I've actually noticed some of the old bounce return to his step. Now if only they made a combination mobility/light treat I'd be in treat heaven!

Pet Product Review - Whisker Lickin's cat treats by Purina
Most cat lovers will attest to the adage that you cannot please all of the cats, all of the time. It's certainly true in our house of cats, especially when it comes to treat time.
The Cat Panel weighed in with their votes on Purina's Whisker Lickin's Crunch Lovers Tuna Flavor treats (5 Paw rating = Purrr-fect):
Indy - A princess forced to live with two slovenly step-brothers and who dislikes most treats - 5 Paws - she loves them!
Buddha - Not as serene as his name implies, into everything and likes most treats - 5 Paws - keeps finding where I've hidden them and tries desperately to open the container with his teeth
Braveheart - Our old battle-scarred veteran who keeps mostly to himself and likes some of the treats, some of the time - 5 Paws - devoured every crumb
My take: I like the fact that you can purchase these treats in a canister (as opposed to a pouch), so I can simply shake the canister when it's treat time instead of yelling all over the house like Ma Kettle. All-in-all, I'm happy when they're happy and Whisker Lickin's makes them all very happy!
