Pet Product Reviews - Buckarooz! Free Range Antler Chews

Hooray! I have found a new favorite dog treat; Buckarooz! Free Range Premium Quality Antlers.

Buckarooz__thumb

Did you know that every year deer of all kind drop their old hard antlers and start growing new or what's called velvet antlers.  Until now, the antlers just go to waste or a few turned into chandeliers.  Well now there is a great new use for the antlers as All-natural antler chews.  The best thing about it is that it's comes from an annual renewable crop.

The natural "drops" from farmed and wild animals, or gently and humanely harvest the hard antler off farmed deer in the fall. .  NO ANIMALS ARE EVER HARMED.  All antlers are naturally sourced in the USA, big point for me.

All Buckarooz! antler chews are all-natural as they come from wild animals or from farmed animals that are never given any steroids, unnecessary antibiotics or other growth promoting chemicals.  Natural dog antler chews are much longer lasting than rawhide or synthetic chew toys, even longer than raw bones. This is due to their high calcium content of these bone-like natural growths.

Being hard antler exposed to the weather, Antler Chews are stronger than raw bones and are of a finer texture.  Antler Dog Chews cut from real hard antler will not easily break, chip or splinter like cooked or raw bones might.  Your dogs chewing action and the digestive action of the dogs own saliva slowly yields delicious morsels of antler for your dog to enjoy.  What I particularly like about Buckarooz! Is that they leave the antler in tact so that it takes more time for your dog to consume the marrow.  Some antlers I've tested expose the marrow and thus exhausted much earlier.

CAUTION:  Like for any new chew toy or special dog snack, ALWAYS supervise your dog when giving antler chew sticks or buttons. Do not allow them to try and swallow them or break them in half.  Buckarooz! Like all natural antler chews are very hard and can break teeth if too aggressively chewed.   Some dogs get overly possessive of dog antler chews.  Always use caution when taking an antler chew toy away from your dog.

For the best selection of Buckarooz! And best prices go to Mrs.Pets.com.  Here is their link: http://www.mrspets.com/cat-antler-chews.cfm

Pet Products Review - No Grainers® Dog Biscuits and Treats THE 100% grain-free alternative

As you all know, I shop at Walmart quite a bit.  I love the store for their great prices and high quality selection of pet products, in particular treats.  Well on recent trips, I've seen big displays of a new product called No Grainers.  They certainly caught my attention with the bright blue packaging and healthy message.  So when the people at No Grainers sent me a sample of their 100%Grain Free dog treats, I couldn't wait to try them.

Well, lucky for me my friend Tony moved in just a block away.  He has a 4 year old beautiful Doberman.  During the move she was very anxious and acclimating to the new apartment very stressful.  I brought over a 7 oz bag of No Grainers Hickory Smoked Pork Flavor dog treats and some raw hide and pigs ears.  I thought it would keep her busy while Tony and I moved boxes.  Let me tell you, I was surprised when Senta, the Doberman wanted more No Grainers treats preferring them to the raw hide.  They must be good, and must be tasty.  Because I don't know what could be more delicious to a dog than a smoked pigs ear.

So not only do I recommend No Grainers for their taste, and the fact that they are high in protein, they are healthy too. But those are my words.  Here are the words from the professionals at the manufacturer HBH validated by the press:

"pringville, UT (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 3, 2009 -- Allergies are the number one reason veterinarians treat dogs nationwide, according to the Veterinary Pet Insurance Company (as posted by the American Veterinary Medical Association), costing Americans approximately $16 million in vet bills each year. Many pet owners do not know most dog treats contain inexpensive corn and wheat fillers. In fact, grain-based treats can cause increased allergic reactions in dogs that have sensitivities to corn and wheat. With dog health and happiness in mind, HBH Pet Products carefully formulated No Grainers® Dog Biscuits and Treats as a unique 100% grain-free alternative specifically for pet owners who want to give their dogs a natural reward."

I recommend you stop in your local Walmart store to purchase No Grainers.  The price is right at only $3.50 for a 20 oz bag, can you believe it?!  And for training assistance products to compliment use of the treats go to this Walmart page:  http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=no+grainers&search_constraint=0&tc=0&ic=48_0&ref=+243033.244189&tabvalue=893_All

Pets Product Review - Cloud Star Provenance dog treats

The good folks at Cloud Star sent Champ and me a box of their new grain-free dog treat called Provenance.  Yes, like the name, Provenance is premium with great star shaped cookie design.  Provenance means in French "a point of origination" so the treats are based on the "fundamental sources of nutrition as nature intended."

Cloudstar provenanceWell I can see how mother nature intended our canine ancestors to eat grain free, wheat & corn free, no sugar foods, but she also gave us tastebuds that make us seek foods we enjoy.  Sorry Cloud Star, I  love ya, but the Provenance brand treats are really bland.  I gave samples to nearly a dozen dogs.  They all enthusiastically accepted my treat offer, sometimes they carried them in their mouths for a bit.  But ulitmately they ended up on the floor with one bite taken out.

Now I thought this was weird so I took a bite, just a small one.  Well, they taste exactly as I imagined, like dried potato with essence of chicken.  It was very dry.

Don't get me wrong, the company is great!  Cloud Star makes all their products in the USA; that's a huge point from me.  And they give 10% of the net profits to non-profits that help animals; 2 points! but when it comes to taste.... give us a little sizzle.

You can buy Cloud Star Provenance on their website at www.CloudStar.com a 16oz box will cost $7.95.

Pet Product Review - Wellness Pure Rewards Chicken & Lamb Jerky Treats for Dogs

Ok, I have to tell you today is going to be the last product review of doggie treats for a long while.  You know why?  with all the samples that get sent to me, and Champ, my Sheltie happily willing to test them all, he's starting to turn up his nose at his regular dog food, and even at some of his lesser favorite treats (which only a week ago may have been his favorite treat ever).  So the take away from today's blog post:  DO NOT OVER TREAT YOUR DOG!

wellness pure rewards

But, if you are looking for a treat, Champ's new favorite spoil me rotten but healthy treat is Wellness pure Rewards Chicken & Lamb Jerky Bits for Dogs.  YUM! Even I have to say, these 1"x1" squares of pressed moist meat smell lovely.  They do kinda remind me of soylent green, from the 70's movie, but who cares.  Champ certainly does not, even though he gets only one, when he's good of course, you can tell, he simply loves them.

Now in order for me to love the treats, they need to comprise the following:

Nothing Artificial, Grain Free, Few Ingredients, Never Recalled and made in the USA.  Well Wellness Pure Rewards Chicken & Lamb bits for dogs, meets these all of these.  Wellness Pure Rewards also comes in several delicious flavors including Salmon, Turkey and Beef.

If you're looking to buy the product, we recommend going to www.PetFoodDirect.com.  I checked out 5 online retailers, and their prices were the best for a 6oz bag.  Order your Wellness Pure Reward Chicken & Lamb Jerky Treats for Dogs and save over $2 per bag at:

Pet Products Review - CATSWELL® HAPPY HIPS® Chicken Breast Jerky Treats for Cats

CATSWELL® HAPPY HIPS® Chicken Breast Jerky Treats for Cats

I don't know, is it just my cat, or every cat that is super finicky.  I've tried just about every treat I can find for my cat to give him a reward for essentially doing nothing but causing trouble and sleeping (sounds like a bank bail out doesn't it).  My latest attempt was CATSWELL® HAPPY HIPS® Chicken Breast Jerky Treats for Cats.  My purchase was based on the fact that CATSWELL® HAPPY HIPS® Chicken Breast Jerky Treats for Cats contains Glucosamine & Chondroitin and claimes to help maintain healthy joints.  I guess you can say its a fortified treat.

After spending $3.99 for a 2oz package of these jerky treats, once more, I had to give the treats to my dog.  My cat wouldn't touch them.  Now I'm not saying the treats were bad in any way, just simply, from my small test panel, the treat was a waste of money.  If you are interested in buying this treat for your cat, do ask for a sample from your pet store.  No sense in paying premium prices if your cat is not going to eat them.
