  • Another Microchip Miracle

    from SheltieTales

Late yesterday afternoon, I answered the phone. It was Cottonwood Animal Hospital telling us that a good Samaritan (theyre not really from Samaria who is, these days? so should that really be capitalized?) had just dropped off a Sheltie whose microchip traced back to Sheltie Rescue of Utah. There was no other information on the dog except a rabies tag issued by some other vet clinic.

They gave us the microchip number and Barbara and I spent the next couple of hours pouring over our records...

Just about a year ago, I bought myself a new digital camera, a nice little Casio Exilim EX-Z1000. Sweet camera, small enough for a shirt pocket, takes great photos and decent video clips.

The problem is that its easy to keep handy, and easy to use. And Ive taken over 2,000 photos & videos. Ive managed to keep them uploaded to my laptop pretty regularly, and Ive gone so far as to change the filenames of about 350 of the files to incorporate a clue about the photo or video it contains. But...

Ive been so busy annoying you all with my tribulations with this blog, that I havent actually blogged recently about the purpose of this whole thing: Sheltie Rescue!

Lemme seeand please forgive me if Ive told you some of this previously

Cassie came back to us (I know I did tell you this). But she went to a foster home very shortly (2 days?) after returning. And we have been told by her foster mom that she wants to do the adoption as soon as she recovers from some gall bladder surgeryduring...

  • Senior Adopts Puppy

    from SheltieTales

on Tuesday February 17th, 2009 at 02:30 PM

Well, today was Tessas adoption day. Mid-afternoon, a slightly elderly man (lets call him John, since thats his name ) and his son (well call him John toosame reason) came over for the older John to meet and adopt Tessa. Barbara had done a very careful pre-screen of this gentleman and wed agreed that this could also be a first-date adoption.

Tessa was a delight, just running around everywhere, not frightened of the strangers, but not being obnoxious, either. Dakota was downstairs with us in...

  • Of Microchips and Names

Yesterday, we got a phone call from somebody down in Utah County (the county to the south of Salt Lake County where we live) saying that theyd found a dog running on the streets with our nametag on him and/or our microchip in him (I got confused over which it wasit changed a couple of times as I eavesdropped on Barbara talking to them on the phone). The dogs name is Sonny.

Well, a couple of months ago, we placed a rescue with a family who lives near downtown Salt Lake City and they promptly...

  • Tanner’s Home From Being Neutered

    from SheltieTales

on Tuesday February 17th, 2009 at 02:30 PM

This afternoon, we picked Tanner up from the vets, where wed taken him Monday evening to be neutered on Tuesday. We would have picked him up on Tuesday, but it seems that he metabolized the anesthesia more slowly than some dogs and thus they wanted to keep him overnight.

He is such a sweet boy. For most of the afternoon, hes been lying right here next to my chair as I work. Once, he started acting a little anxious and looking hard at me. I finally figured out that he was saying "May I please...

  • Tanner’s First Seizure (Here)

    from SheltieTales

on Tuesday February 17th, 2009 at 02:30 PM

Last night, while we were watching telly, Tanner was lying on the back of the couch on which I was lying with Abby on my chest. Rather abruptly, Tanner stood up on the back of the couch and one hind foot slipped off. I reached over to stabilize him and was putting his foot back up on the back when I noticed that he had a very strange look on his face. Not knowing if he was scared of something or not, I pulled him down off the back of the couch and nestled him between me and the back with my...
