Sorry I've been MIA for so long! It's been a busy holiday season and I kept putting the blog on the back burner. And the funny thing is the longerI seem togo withoutposting, the harder it is to post! I also was re-evaluating whatdirection I want to take this blog in. I decidedI want to focus more on babies and dogs. Not just shibas - or just dogs. That means there will definitelybe posts that focus on my this rapidly growing baby who's a source of inspiration to me every day.

    Hope you like the...

Fat trimmings and bones (especially tempting on Thanksgiving, but don't do it!)

  • Rub a Dub – Shibas and baths

    from Shiba Tail

Yesterday, I gave the shibas much needed baths. Like most shibas, they HATE baths. Luckily, they keep themselves pretty clean so they don't need them often. However, after a few trips to the beach and being doused in smelly salt water, and countless romps in the dirt at the dog park, they need some serious bathing.

We usually bathe the dogs in the tub. We have a detachable hand held shower head that works perfectly for bathing the pups. In my experience, bathing in the tub requires two things:...

  • One month old!

Today, this blog turns one month old. In honor of my blog's one month birthday, I wanted to share the meaning behind this blog's name.

Well besides the obvious pun - a "tail" about shibas, instead of tale-it's really becauseI have a weakness for the shiba tail. Oh that shiba tail! It'sadorable the way it curls around in a little curly cue, so endearing. Not many breeds have a curly tail. Pugs, Akitas, Keeshond Basenjis, Chow Chows, Norwegian Elkhounds, Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes,...

  • A puppy and a newborn: The “tail” of Bella

    from Shiba Tail

on Thursday November 11th, 2010 at 06:37 AM

The craziest/most insane/most wonderful thing I've ever donewas bring home an 11 week old puppy when I was about7 1/2 months pregnant. People told me I was nuts. They said that I would be getting rid ofthe puppy shortly after the baby's arrival. They told me I would never be able to handle both a newborn and a puppy. I now know that I certainly was nuts, I definitely did think on a few occasionsthat I would have to getrid of the puppy, but that laerning to handle it all made me, Bella, and our...

  • Things I can’t live without

    from Shiba Tail

As a dog owner, there are a few key items I (and my dogs) can't live without.

Coupler leash This works really well when walking two dogs at the same time. Usually, the leashes get all twisted together, but not so with this handy device. I love mine and use it for practically every walk. It's priceless when you have a baby in tow as well.

Nylabone My dogs are big chewers. They love these Nylabones because they can chew on them for hours. No chewed molding = happy me!

Snaps These treats are by far...
