I was looking at my Google Analytics page for this blog and noticed that someone found mysite by searching for the "benefits of dogs and babies". But there are many! So, to honor this random blog visitor, here's a list of the benefits ofdogs and babies (and if you're the one who found my blog by searching...

  • Off Leash

    from Shiba Tail

on Monday October 25th, 2010 at 04:03 PM

The other day, we took the dogs to a dog beach near our house. It's the perfect opportunity to let them off leash and run aound with other dogs. They had so much fun.

I have it heard time and time again that you can't let Shiba Inus off leash because they will never come to you if they see a small animal to chase. I really believe that this is a fallacy and one that cost Aspen many opportunities to run free with other dogs. Before we knew better we just listened to this so called "rule" about...

Today, I experimented with another dog treat recipe. It's a chicken flavored dog biscuit. It's a mix of different recipes I found online and since I had all the ingredients, I decided to give it a whirl.

    Directions: Preheat oven to 350F.

  • Demon Dog from Fleet Street (Puppy Mouthing)

    from Shiba Tail

Bella the Shiba may look cute, but she has a demon streak. Anyone walking in our door is welcomed by Bella the puppy nipping them with her needle sharp teeth. Its called puppy mouthing and some puppies are just more prone to it than others. Puppies are orally stimulated and learn by biting, mouthing all aspect of their environment (thats why theyre bound to chew up your favorite shoes!). Mouthing people is just one more aspect of this stimulation, but one that must be discouraged.

  • Dealing with separation anxiety

    from Shiba Tail

on Thursday October 21st, 2010 at 11:30 AM

When Aspen was a puppy, he struggled with separation anxiety.

The poor puppy would get so upset when we left the house, he would urinate, howl, bark and whine. It was extremely hard leaving him at all, but one of couldnt always stay with himallthe timedue to our work obligations. Our neighbor, who complained about the whining, recommended we play the radio so he would think that someone was home. So, we decided to blast the 80s for our sad little pup for a few afternoons when we would leave...

  • Frozen pumpkin yogurt treats

    from Shiba Tail

on Thursday October 21st, 2010 at 11:30 AM

My dogs LOVE yogurt. The other day, I bought them yogurt treats from the pet food store and they loved them. I thought it would be fun to try and make them myself. I tried this recipe, which is an adaptation of one I found at this website and the dogs went NUTS over it. Itsa simple and healthy treat that you can feel good about giving your dogs. Im planning on experimenting with baking these little goodies into more of a cookie-like texture instead of frozen, so stay tuned.

Hi there!I'm so happy to befinally starting a blog. I love reading other people's blogs and I've wanted to get in on the fun for quite some time. In fact, I've set up a few blogs just to give up on them a few days later. Well, I'm bound and determined to keep this blog up and running. I even bought a domain name! So, here we go.

The point of this blog is to chronicle the lives of my family and my dogs. But, mostly the dogs. We have two Shiba Inus - Aspen, who is a little over a year, and...
