So now we know the kind of dog the Obamas won't be getting.

Cross Chihuahua off the list. And any other small pooch.

The President-elect told Barbara Walters of ABC News that he prefers a manly canine, not a "yappy" or "girly" dog. But hey, isn't the soon-to-be First Puppy supposed to be for daughters Malia and Sasha?

They'll have a say in the matter, but at Walters' suggestion the family purchase a dog like Cha Cha, her Havanese, the future President said, "It, like, sits in your lap and things? It sounds like a girly dog."

Obama's preference? "Well, we're going to have a big rambunctious dog of some kind."

OK. We're fine with that. But don't look for Obama to take full responsibility. His daughters, he said, will have to "scoop the poop" from the White House lawn. And probably make sure it gets a daily walk.

We have three Dachshunds in our house, but I wasn't offended that our incoming Chief Exec considers small dogs "girly." Some bloggers, however, seethed.

Sounds like our President-Elect has a sense of humor and he was just having some fun with Barbara Walters. He'll let his girls have the dog they want.
