The woman known as "Octomom" wants people to practice birth control with their pets. Is this the definition of irony?
Could be. Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight babies through in vitro fertilization 16 months ago, kept a promise to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and unveiled a 3-foot-by-4-foot sign in her front yard in La Habra, Calif., this week advising pet owners to spay or neuter their cats and dogs.
Here's the message PETA is paying Suleman $5,000 to display: "Don't let your dog or cat become an ‘octomom.' Always spay or neuter." She'll also receive a month's supply of vegan hot dogs and burgers.
Suleman, who is reportedly having financial problems that threaten to force her from her home, posed for pictures with PETA's dog mascot and said she supports the organization's theme of spaying or neutering.
"I love animals and I do believe they should be spayed or neutered," she said. "Humans, of course, are much different."
Of course. The single mother of 14 has agreed to keep the sign in her front yard until June 9, when city officials say it must be removed.
