Dying veteran seeks home for beloved dog
from The wet nose blog
on Sunday June 12th, 2011 at 01:20 AM
It's with a heavy heart that I write this post.
An elderly veteran in hospice care near San Diego, California wants to ensure his beloved dog Gizmo has a new home. The gentleman has about a month to live and make arrangements for Gizmo, his only remaining family.
I was contacted by the veteran's hospice social worker to help find that special individual or family who will honor this hero's wishes and give Gizmo a wonderful life. Gizmo is a seven year-old male Shih Tzu with an incredibly sweet...

on Friday June 3rd, 2011 at 07:51 PM
From time to time, we focus on special pets in the care of our adoption partners that need a little extra help finding their forever homes. Ty is one such pet: a beautiful, intelligent, loving and well-trained dog whose need for activity is outgrowing his New York City foster home. Ty needs an individual or family that has access to the outdoors and wants a great activity partner.
Check out Ty's video and learn more about this wonderful animal, who is Pets for Patriots eligible and avilable...

After a few unexpected delays, but much excitement, we're delighted to announce the start of ourvolunteer program. As of today, we're welcoming applicants who want to join our cause connecting at-risk shelter pets with service and veteran member of the United States military.
While not every volunteer role will be needed immediately or at all times, we have many exciting opportunities for adults, teens and kids to join our cause. On our newvolunteer page(of our newly refreshed website!),...Boston radio personality interviews Quincy Animal Shelter

We couldn't be more thrilled to have Quincy Animal Shelter and Quarry Hills Animal Hospital as our first shelter and veterinary partners, respectively, in the great state of Massachusetts.
A big 'thank you' to Dorothy Pickrell; she's a 26-year veteran of the Massachusetts Army National Guard who was inspiredto bring our program to the Quincy Animal Shelter, where she has works as a volunteer. Equally deserving of our thanks is Lynda Southerland, the shelter's volunteer fundraising coordinator,...
Twice surrendered by military family, Peyton needs a home
from The wet nose blog
on Thursday March 24th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
Every day we get heartbreaking pleas for help. As a small charity we can't help everyone, but we try where we can.
Last night we got a call from the Rescue Coordinator at the Austin Animal Center in Texas. While not one of our shelter partners, they shared the tale of Peyton, a loyal, energetic dog who was twice surrendered by his military family. Because he's a dobie/lab mix, about 65 pounds and six years old, none of the Center's usual rescue partners will take him. Peyton needs our help.

Annie looking like quite the snuggler...
As you may know, we're experimenting with a new effort to highlight some of the most special pets at our shelter partners that are still in search of their forever homes. Recently we profiled Barley, a beautiful dog who has spent most of his life in a Connecticut shelter in spite of being an all-around great dog.
Today we add to the 'can't believe no one adopted this pet yet' list a beautiful senior dog named Annie. She is currently being cared for by...
Open letter to the people of Japan from a U.S. veteran
from The wet nose blog
on Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 at 09:12 AM
This letter is written and shared by Bobby, an Army veteran who honorably adopted her dog Red through Pets for Patriots.
When I see the absolute devastation and destruction in Japan, my emotions go to a level that is difficult for me to approach. Seeing the horrors that the people encountered first in the earthquake, and then the tsunami, would put fear in one's mind beyond conceivable reality. For anyone to know or not know that they might have lost a mother, father, wife, child, relative or...
