  • Can All Dogs Play Fetch?

    from Tiny Lion Dogs

Ive discovered that Gigi, our Shih Tzu, is great at playing fetch. Im a little surprised, I thought that we would need to teach our small dogs how to retrieve objects. But both Gigi and Dino have instinctually known what to do.

Retrieverman at The Retriever, Dog & Wildlife Blog has an interesting post about the origins of Pugs.

Dogchannel.com has a description of the Pekingese breed standard in 1916.

Living with Little Bear has some adorable Shih Tzu photos of her puppy in a post titledPuppy Playpens and Petco.

    On the lookout

Our Tibetan Spaniel Dino has the face of a puppy. That was one of the many reasons I was drawn to the breed: that even as adults, they have little puppy faces, all big eyes and floppy, fuzzy ears.

But dont let the Tibbies small size or fuzzy-wuzzy face fool you. The Tibbie is a watch dog. A badass watch dog.

Thousands of years ago, the Tibbie had two main duties: to be bed-warmers for the Buddhist monks living in the cold climate of Tibet, and to watch over the monasteries. The...

Im married to an Italian man. Italian from Italy. Like any good Italian boy, he calls his mamma every week. I think its cute. He talks on speakerphone via Skype so I can usually hear the conversations. I dont speak Italian, but I can understand enough to know when they are talking about me.

In the last few months, during almost every conversation, my mother-in-law brings up the pets.

    I Cane. Il gatto.

Specifically, are we keeping the house clean with all of the pets and whether we sleep with ...

Our dogs have tons of toys. Im not sure why, but both love plush toys more than rubber ones (except for the Nylabone). I even bought them a Kong, thinking that they would love fishing out the peanut butter/treat/kibble inside. The reception to the Kong has been lukewarm.

Ive heard from other Lion Dog owners that their dogs also prefer soft toys to chew on.

Theres a pink bear, a skunk, a bunny that looks startlingly like our kitty from a distance. A duck that used to quack and a red fuzzy bone...

Its been raining for about two days here in Florida. Which means we havent been able to take the dogs on a good, long walk. We are all a little bit annoyed.

Dino doesnt like rain. Or water of any kind. Today we went out to his favorite pee spot and he did his business in record time. We were drenched when we came inside and he spent the rest of the morning sulking despite the fact that I gave him his favorite peanut butter-and-cheese frozen dog snack. Dino also hates baths and has so far...
