  • Possible Moving Woes

I'm a worry-wart. I admit it. But I'm going to worry anyway, so may as well worry online and share my worries with others. LOL I'm tired of living in an apartment. It is a smallish apartment, but even if it was a big one, it is still an apartment. In the apartment I rented in Etobicoke (which was huge), there was a beautiful, fenced-in area, that I could let Bosley run in. Here, I have a fenced-in area, but it partially consists of bush, complete with wild animals, so I can't let him run as...
  • Travels to Nova Scotia

Cape Forchu Lighthouse, YarmouthWell, my brother (Mick), Bosley and I dropped the cat off at a local kitty hotel, and off we went to Nova Scotia. We had an absolutely delightful time! In terms of accessibility and accommodation, I have to admit, it was pretty uneventful. Bosley was accepted at the various hotel/motels where we stayed. Oddly enough, the only two times we had a bit of a "situation" was in Edmunston, New Brunswick. On the way down to Nova Scotia, we stopped at Edmunston and I...
  • Job Secondment

Bosley and I are now a month into my job secondment. I've been an accessibility consultant for about 10 years now, I think, and my workplace has now allowed me to be seconded into a 14-month project on a part-time basis with the provincial government. It is doing something I absolutely enjoy -- providing accessibility/accommodation consultations/assessments/reviews on schools and school boards throughout the province. Of course, Bosley is with me at all times. It is interesting to see the...

Manicures, bedtime belly rubs, personal nannies, professionally prepared meals sounds like Heaven to me! Though its not exactly Heaven, this pet hotel seems pretty close to it! PawsPaws Urban Retreat, located in Sydney, Australia, opened their doors for business on January 28, 2009. This is the place to take your pooch or feline if theyre extra spoiled. Recently, the hotel was nominated for the Sydney Business Awards 09. Boarding rates start at $50-$65 per pup and $20-$25 depending on the...

  • What Exactly IS a Hearing Ear Dog Anyway?

from Life with a Hearing Dog

on Sunday February 1st, 2009 at 02:35 AM

Hearing ear dogs alert people to sound. They also give people more independence and confidence. The dog hears a sound and alerts the handler by touch, then leads the handler to the sound. Bosley alerts me to timers, alarm clocks, fire alarms, the phone, the door, the kettle, and people calling my name. He also lets me know if someone is walking behind us up a dark street, or if there is someone around the house he doesn't know. Bosley is a labrador retriever. Typical breeds used for hearing...
  • CUPE Conference in Niagara Falls

from Life with a Hearing Dog

on Sunday February 1st, 2009 at 02:35 AM

What a week. Four days at a union conference. Over 1,000 people (and one dog) in attendance. I thought the noise and the excitement would have been too much for the Bos-boy, but he took it in stride. The Sheraton Fallsview knew the dog was coming, so the room came equipped with doggy bowls, a big doggy pillow with monogrammed "S" on it, and a little doggy treat sack with a couple of poop bags in it. Rest assured, every time I went up to the podium to make my views known on the Union and...
