The river had me on my toes today! I was cutting wood and noticed that the river was starting to overflow... in a BIG way! It was flowing pretty fast and started out a nice trickle on the top... Which turned into this in mere minutes! Maggie and Howler are checking it out. He loved it and walked all over it but Maggie is a wee bit more reserved (er, smart??). Excuse the dirty video lens! Maggie and I decided we needed to outrun it! She's game for any of my stupid games, I love her big smile...

One sunny, beautiful early spring afternoon, my neighbour (we'll call her Mindy, to protect the innocent) came over for an afternoon of bananagrams and wine! This was not long after Howler poked his eye out. He was still in the cone, recovering. We were having some cheese and crackers to go with that wine and the funniest thing happened that can *ONLY be explained with shitty cartoons (and maybe a lot of wine): We were so wrapped up in conversation (and both oblivious to our dogs sometimes)...

Turns out I have a couple of puppy-escape artists on my hands! Louis and Maggie are superstars at getting out of their pens. Louis only does it when he thinks someone is going for a walk without him. Maggie does it just for kicks. ALL the time. And to come in the cabin at night. So I'll show her. I've started playing dress up with her! Take that yoda-dog! oh the shame...

Howler is amazing! I took him and Maggie out for a quick skijor yesterday and what troopers! They hadn't been out on their own yet, but did really well. Ivy helped us being the "chase" dog, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! His biggest "issue" wasn't his eye (or lack of), but his total puppy goofiness! He kept trying to jump on Maggie's head and generally just be a pain in the butt. Maggie is turning out to be Ms. Serious/Calm/Zen dog so Howler is her polar opposite. Thank goodness she...Better week, yay!

So no one got maimed in the last week = success! Howler is doing AMAZING, considering he lost an eye a week ago. Here it is in all its glory - looking pretty good and leaking a bit. The vet took a quick look a few days ago and said he's looking great. He's come on a walk or two (with the oldsters) and hasn't run into anything. Though walking him one day, we kept bumping into each other. I realized I was on his "blind side" and moved him over to my other side. He makes up for it by...

I don't know what's going on, but the universe seems to be screwing me over lately! Here's a list of things that happened in the span of just a few days: Friday: Howler had an unfortunate accident with a willow tree and managed to poke his eye out. Literally! (more on that later) Saturday night: While wood cutting down on the river, Woody decided to follow some hunters who passed by on skidoos. He went for km's with them before they realized they had an "extra" dog! He was gone for awhile...

I normally find myself saying odd things around here with a pack of dogs and few other humans. Sometimes I'll just catch myself and think "What the HELL did I just say??" And I stop. And then I realize how weird my life is. The instances of this happening have increased exponentially since the pups have come along. Like by 10,000x at least. Oh they bring me SO MUCH JOY!!! (they really do, I freakin' love the little maniacs, and it's a good thing they make me laugh more than they make me want...

Ha, ok that title has nothing to do with this post. Just seeing who's paying attention and how many hits I'll get with that one. Maggie tries on a hat I'm trying to sell... any takers? Free, sweet little puppy included!!! Ok, maybe not, I love this little turd too much. Howler is checking her out, "hmm...I bet I can eat that!!" And Pooh Bear is still PB! Crazy maniac, now with puppies to torment (though they totally deserve it) The snow covered falling trees make for some lovely river art!...
